Depends what kinda deal you get at a junkyard I'd say, but be ware, stay away from the re-pop cheap tailgates that you can buy at the jap crap body parts houses.
Had one of them put on my Co truck a few years ago. I swear it only weighed about 15lbs. First time I stepped down on the tailgate w/ 2 bags of grout over my shoulder the thing buckled like stepping on a beer can. Hurt like he!! when me, the grout and tailgate all hit the ground at the same time!

Sid,
I just bought a Bully lock online last week from Truck Accessorizer at http://www.truckaccessorizer.com/sto...gate_locks.htm
Cost was 29.95 with free shipping. Paid with PayPal, no hassles. Product arrived in three days, can't wait for the weather to warm so I can install it.
That's my link for a good company that you might be interested in.

Did they change th trunion??
On my 95 there is a bolt that goes through the right trunion to keep the gate on.
My queston is did they change the trunion and go to the old GM set up where @ a 45* the gate will lift off?? If so then the hose clamp as suggested is the why to go. Next time I get close to 3rd gen I'll have to check it out.
darn bean counters any way.

Ok, Fedex dropped the Bully tailgate lock off today. Question, should there be some sort of directions with it? It didn't come with any instructions. Can anyone give me a quick overview on the install, do's, don'ts, things to watch for. I noticed a red sticker on the back side that said to watchout for some pins?
Thx,
Sid

bully
I just received and installed my Bully tailgate lock yesterday. I picked it up off of ebay for $25 shipped.
All you need to do is drop the tailgate and undo the 10 T30 bolts that hold the access panel on. Take the 2 8mm nuts off the handle located through the hole you just opened up. Remove the handle. The instructions stated you need to have the tailgate in the closed position to install the new handle. Put the handle in like it came out and put the 2 nuts back on as well as the access panel. It took me about 10 minutes. Very easy to do.
I am going to do the hose clamp trick as well since the lock really isn't that beefy. It may delay the thieves a minute or 2. I think both of these devices will give you a chance of keeping your tailgate. At least I hope!
