Steering wheel not straight

My 03 4x4QC steering wheel is a little to the left when driving straight. How hard is this to fix? Suspension is stock, tires are 285/70/17. I would rather do this myself if I could rather than taking it to dealer. Do I need an alignment? Truck drives straight, just steering wheel is cocked. Thanks

I had the same issue with my 05. I ended up biting the bullet and paid the dealer 80 bucks to align the truck and steering wheel. Sucks to pay the ******* but the truck tracks straight and the wheel is dead center.

It is a very easy job.Look at the steering linkage, there will be an adjustment sleeve near the pitman arm.Loosen the clamps and turn it to move the steering wheel in the direction you need.

Even in a alignment and sitting on the floats you can have a straight steering wheel and when it hits pavement it will go crooked.Tire wear and tire belts will cause this.Technically between the 11 and 1 position is in spec.

do what bob4x4 said. all you need to do is loosen the two 15mm bolts on the sleeve found on the drag link and spin the sleeve (if memory serves, rolling the sleeve in the direction the tires roll when the vehicle is moving forward makes the steering wheel turn to the right and vice versa). Retighten the two 15mm bolts and you are good to go. Takes less than 5 minutes, start to finish.

if the alignment is straight- adjust the drag link. this will center your wheel. this will take 5 minutes

If the wheel is out of center, putting it back to center with that adjustment is pretty easy... but I think the wheel being out of center could be an indicator that something has changed, alignment wise.

If you don't want to run it to the dealer, there are probably tire/alignment shops that would do it cheaper.

Uneven tire wear or a tire belt can also cause it.

As bob4x4 and BroncoHound said but let me add to it... you'll have to place key in ignition and turn to "on" no need to start, this will unlock the steering wheel making the adjustment easier!

Here you go. Sorry the picture isn't the greatest, it's dark and wet outside and i didn't want to crawl under the truck...lol

The part labeled "A" is the drag link. It is what you will spin to turn the steering wheel.

The parts labeled "B" are the two 15mm nuts that will need to be loosened so the drag link can be adjusted.

The part labeled "C" is the pitman arm, for reference sake.

To see if a adjustment will help, carefully drive on left side of highway that you have problem with. The crown of road generally makes a straight ahead wheel get offset to left as crown gets greater. Hard to fix on one that has same amount of offset to right on opposite crown. 4WD is tough on this.

Did mine last week, after driving with the steering wheel crooked for over a year, now it feels weird being straight again...
