SRT10 start button

just recieved a SRT10 "push engine start" switch and as usual the Mopar instructions suck. They state :"PIN 1 needs to be ran to the Run position of the Ignition Switch" and "Pin 2 needs to be ran to the Start Feed Posistion of your Ignition Switch"....

Are these Run/Start Feed wires color coded and near the steering column?....and help... anyone?

Why would you want to go to the expense and waste of a "push button" start on a diesel ? The key switch still has to be cycled for the grid heaters......talk about a tacky bolt-on.........

If I'm correct, you still have to have a key for the SRT-10's as well to turn the ignition on so it would be the same. Turn the key on, wait for the grid heaters, then push the button. I think it would be pretty cool.

To wire in the SRT button use the RED lead (this is a hot wire )from your cigarette lighter (you are using this spot for the start button and the red lead is powered when the ignition is on) and connect to the PIN 1 on the button. Then wire PIN 2 to the YELLOW wire that runs in the wire bundle under the dash and up the steering column. The YELLOW wire runs to the starter relay. If you SPLICE into the yellow wire (as opposed to cutting it) you have the option of using the BUTTON OR THE KEY. Of course to use the BUTTON you still need the key and need to turn it to the RUN position before pushing the button. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: while I have not tried CUTTING the YELLOW wire ABOVE the splice point mentioned in the above instuctions, I believe if you do cut the YELLOW above the spice in point the TrucK WILL NOW ONLY START WITH THE BUTTON AND TURNING THE KEY TO START WILL HAVE NO EFFECT. If someone cuts the yellow or has already, please post your results.

PS-if someone here is a TDR member please advise TOMYGUN, maybe this will help him.

I think Tomygun was told all of that, I think I posted it. The complication arises if you want to disconnect certain circuits as you are cranking, the same way the key in effect does. This requires the use of relays and more complicated wiring.

Yes, mjf6175 has it right in the wiring to use. Since it'll be going into the cig lighter hole, the hot wire there is key hot. Just be sure you do NOT use a hot wire or else you will not need to use the key at all to start the truck.

I do not have the SRT-10 one, but I do have the ignited one (it lights up) and use it pretty much every time I start the truck... in fact the other day I used the key because it just happened and I remembered it feeling odd since I've used the button so much. I'll go out in a bit and take a shot of it.

Oh, and I spliced into the yellow wire at the base of the steering colum as it comes out of a connector.

as others have stated an ignition switch is still required. my big cummins has a push button start from the factory. i've seen much worse bolt ons, remember it's only our opinion.
