Squirrel nest alert!

Check the air box and inlet routing for restrictions. I know a guy that found a squirrel nest in his. Worth a look.

It's funny that balvert mentioned this on another thread. Last fall I was meeting my brother to go on a hunting trip. He was checking the oil on his truck beforeI got to his place. A lucky thing he decided to check before we got a hundred or so miles down the road to a filling station. His fenders were jam packed with cones! They got into his air intake, chewed the heck out of his air filter, and packed the intake with cones! Has anyone else had any experiences similar with critters?? (My brother is out for revenge on those squirrels! )

Hmmm.

I wonder how pine cones do as an air filter.
Talk about surface area.

Spritz a little K&N oil on them, and your good to go.

Squirrels!

When I bought my 93 CTD, it had been parked outside in the forest and the wiring harness was all chewed up. Insulation gone or damaged all over and bare copper showing. What a hassle!
But I don't think you've really lived until you've had a confrontation with a cane spider in the cab. Now that's a thrill!

What is a Cane Spider?

My friend lost his cat, because the thing crawled up under the radiator, probably because it was warm. When he started it up it wasn't the kind of purr he was looking for.

Sounds like a new business venture to me..."protect your investment from rodent infestation." If these can sell - www.trucknutz.com - and be successful (at least enough to have their own website), you just may be on to something.

I believe they do.
Also, dryer sheets seem to keep some critters away as well.

Actually, the last time I looked under my hood, the top edge of the little sleeve that goes around the batteries was frayed and gnawed on looking...

Back in '76 or so my buddy, Ross lent me his '54 ford pickup. It was not running. I noticed the points were sparking on the little post and quickly figured that the folks who did his tune-up had forgotten a little insulating washer under the points. It ran nice. Then my goat ate the tail light wiring. I replaced the fuse and the old woven wiring. While I was leaned over to do this, Suzie, the goat picked my cigarette pack out of my back pocket and ate the whole works. They say there is enough nicotine in a single cigarette to kill a person. Suzie ate the whole pack and the ford's wiring and showed no ill effects. .... Now what was my point???

After reading the post about the squirrel's nest in the airbox of a modified airbox, I put a heavy wire screen over the hole I made in the bottom of mine. No squirrels can get in now.

I was talking to my brother over the weekend. He heard a guy on the radio who said to put mint oil on cotton ***** in the corners under your hood. He said he hasn't had any squirrels since he did that. (He says not to use the "cheap" stuff- go to a health food place.) Fussy little critters- huh?

Man that used to happen to me all the time. On my 99 Tacoma they built a nice nest in the air box, they chewed the air filter up but thank goodness I had a K&N filter. The metal screen in the filter stopped them from going deeper into the engine.

My older 78 Corolla had them in the hood, they used to pack the voids in the hood with nuts and nesting material. Every time I opened the hood it rained crap all over me and the engine.

I was never sure if it was squirrels or chipmunks?
