How often does anybody have a flat with our trucks/tires? I know I haven't had a flat yet on this truck at 93K miles. (im sure im jinxing that now..)
But on previous vehicles I have had, it seems a flat is relatively regular thing (say once a year). Not now. I don't know if it's luck or these size tires just are not as likely to go flat from minor screws/nails etc.

flat
I know that one time I pulled a screw out from my 315 BFG AT and it was just sitting in the tread, not hurting a thing. I don't want to jinx myself either , but I believe that larger deeper tread tires are not as likely to go flat.

I've actually pulled a screw out of one of my trucks tires that required a plug. Can't say any more or less, kind of luck of the draw. But perhaps the deep lugs do help protect the tires.

just luck man... made me think of my 04 1500 that got a nail right at the edge of the tread and no one would fix it... The thing didn't ever leak for like 35K miles I didnt mess with it.
But you could get lucky with the thick lugs maybe.....

I'm going to go with the 285/75/17 Toyos whenever my stockers finally go bald - but that's taking a long time :-)
A local shop got me a decent quote on the tires, and told me to just let them know when I was ready to order them and they'd include them on their next shipment - that way I wouldn't have to pay for extra shipping.
As far as the spare goes - I just asked them to keep an eye out for a used 35" tire in D or E load range and approx the same width. I figure a used 35" tire is close to the same height as a new 34" tire (about what the 285/75/17 is height-wise).

I blew out a front 285/70 BFG at about 70 mph a while back, but that's it for me in 137,000 miles. The truck handled fine with it too.

Got the tires on and they look awesome. A little floaty, if that is a word, but the extra weight capacity of these along with the looks are worth it. I got all 4 mounted, out the door, for a little over 1k including taxes. I will order 1 more and just leave it on the spare. I don't enjoy doing a 4 tire swap let alone 5.

This is what I used for a five tire rotation.
