The tip helps with mine too. My question is this; what happens to all the back that is on the inside of the rest of the exhaust pipe? Does it eventually blow out or just keep building up in there? Probably a stupid question, sorry. ...first diesel truck.

not a stupid question at all.... the real question is what is that doing to our CAT? That simply has to clog those little honeycomb pores in it up.

Interesting, if the cat gets hot enough, wouldn't it burn off the soot?

Has anybody taken a look at the inside of the cat when they had things apar?

Im more than sure, with the millions of miles of testing they do with these trucks, before releasing them to the general public (and they really did do over a million milies of testing on the 3rd gen common rail) they would be taking a look at the things like the catalytic converter, knowing full well that what they have on there will stand the test of time.

First, it's only stupid if you don't ask and walk around the rest of eternity not knowing when there are tons of people that do know, and you have access to them. As for the stuff actually up in the pipe, it stays there until I get the turbo spooled up hard and am really moving some air through the system. Then it comes out in a nice tubular cloud directly over the road shoulder due to my turndown. Think vacuum cleaner hose, except much larger, directly to the right of the white mark on the road. Kind of a circular swirl pattern in it, pretty cool to watch in the mirror.

I've only got 215 miles on my 05 and sure enough, I've got a little soot on the bumper. Looks like it's tip time.

I should know this but is the Cummins a 4 or 5 inch exhaust pipe?

Yes sir 2003+ 4" from mexico. Add a stainless exhaust tip double wall to 5" and soot stained panel/bumper is history. But it is good to hear that some guys are burning fuel!

I, too, have a Bright White Sport and mine soots up less than 400 miles, but maybe the Edge EZ is to blame partially. I could see it staining it up if the truck was not washed on a regular basis. I have a Magnaflow Stainless Steel tip and it doesn't seem to soot up the bumper or R/R quarter much worse than the OE tailpipe did.

Angry

Guess I messed up! Ordered the 4 inch Gibson turn down tip and it won't slide over the existing 4 inch exhaust pipe. Will I have to cut the existing pipe back about 18 inches and install the tip or return it for a 5 inch tip that will slide over my 4 inch existing exhaust pipe?

Thanks in advance

there was only one length and one direction the tip could be installed,to smoke both the bumper and quarter panel, and those sharp engineers at DC found it.
