Somebody stole my tailgate!!!

What the..who steals a crappy old 5th wheel type tailgate? I mean, really! Oh well, they got a piece of CRAP, it didn't even latch right and was constantly a headache to close or latch. So, I'm looking for a new V style 5ver tailgate, any suggestions?

DC

ps. there goes another 500 bucks. thanks a lot! i'm hardly rich!

People like to steal stuff, mine was stolen off my 01 when I had just bought it, but it was a tailgate, tailgate. Some dude needed it more than I did I guess. It was at a horse show in Gainesville, tx. Makes me angry but if I ever catch anybody trying something funny on her they gonna be in for it!

They will also steal your bock heater cord off a job site and your heavy duty hitch that accepts the weight distribution bars off a trail head when you go hiking.....I hate people who will steal.

Or they will steal your quad ramps going into the bed of the truck. Fun trying to load a 700 pound quad by hand...

I use a worm gear clamp around the slotted pivot attachment for the tailgate on the passenger side. At least they will have to have some tools to get my tailgate. I learned this believe it or not from a local dealer who said they do this to every new truck. It doesn't make it impossible, but at least they will not be able to just walk off with it in two seconds.

Tailgate thieves =(

WOW! I had no idea it was such a widespread issue. I kind of live in this little bubble of "I wouldn't do that, why would anyone else?" Well. I'm gonna just leave the truck gate-less for now, if I get around to ordering a nice 5th wheel tailgate, I'll get the locking kind or use some of y'alls suggestions to lock it down.

I use a lock on my wieght distribution hitch and two locks on my B&W, locks on my toolboxes..I wish they were all keyed the same, I need four keys for my truck not counting the ignition, LOL.

A locking device that prevents lowering the tailgate stops it, can't remove it without opening it.

When I was in Jr high we took a school van on a trip and someone stole the spare tire. Thieves care about one person, themselves. Our school name was even on the side. I know I'd probably shoot someone if I saw them messing with my truck. I am firm believer in the double tap also, prevents them from trying to sue me.

I've read pretty good things about the Handy 5th wheel tail gates. This place sells them for 20% off.

FWIW I use a Gate Keeper from the makers of the Jimmy Jammer. Not quite as cheap as some solutions, but quick and easy install; and was under $15 back when I got it.

I'll try to get some for ya later. Nothing really to it though. Just get yourself a worm gear clamp big enough to go around the round pivot on the tailgate, completely unscrew the clamp, put the clamp on the pivot while the tailgate is on the truck. It covers the slot in the pivot preventing the tailgate from just being lifted off. They will at least need a screw driver to remove the gate.
