Exclamation Smarty Installed. Question on Tranny....

I bought a new Smarty last week and installed it this weekend on my new truck. I really only bought it to fix my speedometer from being off due to 315's. I picked number 2 on the Smarty which is a 60hp gain with stock timing. I tried the 30hp w/ timing but the truck liked to smoke a little on hills. The 60 w/out timing works great with no smoke. I had to pick something in order to fix the speedo.
I really like the software but I am really scared that maybe I might be hurting my truck running it like this. My tranny likes to shift hard with no load (it even shifted hard with nothing installed). Im afraid 60 more hp (and who knows how much more torque) will screw up my tranny when it shifts or takes off. Im not a speed demon, and I occasionally tow no more than 9000#.
Do you think my tranny is ok (even with shifting hard)? Do you guys trannys shift hard? Any of you been running the Smarty for a while?
Im sorry about all the questions, but Im planning on keeping this truck for a very long time, so I dont want it screwed up by my ignorance.
Any info will help. Thanks!

You should be fine on level 2 with the stock or mild torque management.

the 60 actually did like 74 on the dyno according to bob, but i think your fine running at that level. just use your head and youll be fine. i ran on 7 for many moons with no issues. my fluid even looks and smells brand new at 23k miles. 22.5k of those being modded

by your signature...I DON'T SEE A PYRO...FOR EGT's YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PYRO IF YOUR GONNA RUN A BOX ...if you pull ANYTHING with the truck...do it on "STOCK SETTING" ....

UNTIL YOU HAVE A PYRO... SMARTY WILL MAKE YOUR EGT's HOT if you push the peddle

If you have any concerns about your tranny shifting hard or doing anything else that seems not normal or out of the ordinary, get it to the dealer before you end up paying for repairs. All power enhancing equipment will only amplify a problem if it is already present.

the tranny does not hit hard when shifting, it just shifts firm. You definately feel the shift. Its like having a shift kit. Is that normal?
So your saying that I need a Exhaust temp gage with the smarty on level 2?

Smoke?

I test drove an '06 with the 48re and thought it shifted like butter. Didn't like it at all, especially after driving a DTT on my '99 for six years. I thought the odd sw#'s with timing were supposed to reduce egt's and smoke?

My 06 48re shifts much more Firm than the 04 48re that I had. Shift points seem a lot different also.

the 48re shifts very firm which is good for auto trannys. nothing is wrong, you have a strong tranny if it is shifting firm. i like the way mine shifts. my tq lockup even feels like a shift.
i drove 3 different trucks with the 48re when i was buying mine, they all shifted firm just like mine. i was very particular about the auto tranny coming from a sloppy GM 4l60e.

Go to the 60 HP setting with timing. This may give you better mileage and you'll soon love the extra power and never go back. Shifting hard is good for the tranny as it makes less heat and less wear. But yours is not really shifting hard in stock form. With some valve body work you could find out what hard is. No problem.

You are probably not going to hurt anything without gauges on the 60 HP setting, but don't pull real hard at a low RPM and watch that the TC doesn't slip a little in lockup on long grades. Mine began to slip at 1600 RPM on long grades so I raised the RPM by running in a lower gear till I could get my VB and TC. And at 1600 RPM the EGTs were at about 1100 or 1200, but dropped way off with an RPM increase. I love that low locomotive roar, but the gauges showed me it might not be the best plan.

The Smarty is a great thing. Have fun and get your Speedo set.

I think it might be best to get a few more gauges and a matched pod just to know whats going on. I dont pull much at all. Maybe a 9K# trailer once a year, but other than that, my 16' boat or a few atvs occasionally.
Again, I dont want to ruin such a big investment.

My 48RE shifted a little firmer than expected when stock. It would even give a good bang sometimes when the TC locked-up. I found the more power I put through it the smoother/better the shifts felt. Sure doesn't help the tranny life though!
