I put an 1/8 in between the inside tire and leaf spring so i that i didnt have to cut the studs and i believe i used 1 1/2 between the tires. I didnt have to, but you'd have trouble sliding a piece of paper between them.

Seems your best bet for STOCK 17" wheels, and STOCK suspension. is going to be the Toyo Open Country All Terrain or Mud Terrain, OR the Nitto Dura Grappler in the 285-75/17. Both come in load range E. When I bought that size for my 04.5 Nitto did not have the duragrappler in that size available. I have been happy with the Toyos but I really like the Nitto Dura grappler.

How are the Dura grapplers in snow and wet? Better than the stock Michelins I would hope.

Can't say I have personal experience w/ the Duragrapplers. Typically the more sipes and grooves a tire has, the better it is in snow and rain.(next time your in the tire shop, check out the tread on the snow specific tires. CRAZY SIPING!!!) So this leads me to believe that the Duragrappler would be a good choice. Maybe someone who runs these tires will chime in with more info.

I have the 285/75/17E Dura Grapplers, but I haven't had 'em in any snow yet; I like them in the little bit of rain we've had since I got them. Pics are in my gallery.

285/75/17 = 34" roughly.

315/70/17 = 34" roughly.

lots of guys run a full 35x12.50, but I believe those will rub.

I have 235/80/17's Firestone Transforce AT's on my 04.5. They're 31.8" tall. And look like pizza cutters but the tread is holding up great for as bad as I treat them. I like the sound of the 255/80/17's too. 33" tires that skinny would be nice.

yeah call them and ask about those tires when i did they said they are on back order and do not know when they will be getting anymore... these online companies do not do a very good job of telling you when items are not available and the tires that are made in the size are the bfg KM2 also FWIW when i did call them they said that size was only available in the KM1 but the online store says its a KM2 so who knows about that at all....
