Should I buy it?

Found a 2004 Demo truck locally it is set up as follows:

2500 Quad Cab 4x4 Laramie (and loaded to the gills, navi, leather, etc.) SWB, 4.10, Auto, black, locking diff, perfect shape. Motor is 555.

Has 9000 miles on it

They will take $33K for it.

Also they have an 04.5 600 set up same way only it has 3.73s and is high end SLT. Can buy it for $34,500 after rebates. (List $41,100)

What to do, what to do?

Well, the 555 is 9000 miles closer to losing the warranty plus people kind of abuse the demos sometimes. The 600 obviously will have a little more power but many people are getting horrible mileage with them. I haven't heard any complaints about the 555. The 3:73s may help the mileage somewhat on the 600. I guess it's really a toss-up so just look hard at both and ask yourself which one you like better. I would ask if the demo would come with a 36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty beyond the 9000 miles already on it....

Good luck.....

If you want the bells and whistles get the demo. 9000k is peanuts for mileage. Your buying a diesel to put high mileage on it right? If not save the diesel option price and buy a gasser. You'd be a long time making up the difference. I'd opt for the 555 before the 600 personally. The demos where I worked were well taken care of. Usually a suit driving it. Good luck

I would get the brand new 600 not a "possibly" ragged out and abused demo from the clowns at the dealer, plus like was stated above...you are losing 9K off your warranty. 2 cents

Thanks for the input guys. I didn't know with the bad MPG reports on the 600s if I should maybe spring for the 555 or not. I dont need the bells and whistles the high end laramie as, the SLT has more than enough goodies on it. I am going to look at them and drive them both tomorrow (if they are still there), maybe that will help. Does $34,800 for the new one sound all right? This is as far as I got him down on the phone and it was about right at invoice.

Your best bet is to take them out and drive them both like I did, I drove several of the older style 555 and several 600's all with auto trannys and a mix of 2500 and 3500 series trucks and I bought the 600. The mileage on mine was within a couple of mpg compared to the 555's I drove (same route on each test/ same speeds) yes I know not real scientific but good enough for me. Seems there are some 600 owners getting very low mileage but I have not experienced this yet...and hopefully I won't (crossing fingers). Like I said before drive them both ultimately you are the one that will be making the payment. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Thanks HD. Yeah I really want to find a 3500 SRW but there aren't any anywhere! Hard enough to find a 2500 like I want!

Even though the demo has 9000 miles you should get a full warranty, my was a demo also had 3000 miles when I bought it I got full warranty from that mileage on.

I'd double check and make sure it is a "DEMO"....most new car lots I know hardly ever rack up over 2,000 to 2,500 miles on a "new" and "untitled" vehicle. If indeed it is new, it will have a MSO (manufacturer's statement of origin---like a title)....just trying to help ensure you're not being sold in all actuality a "used" low mileage vehicle.....just my $0.02 worth............
