service contracts???
I just bought a truck and am about to pick it up.
Who all owns the service contracts? Especially Max Care?
How much did you pay?
Please chime in and give me some input. I want to be an informed buyer.
Thanks in advance.

Service contracts are only good if there's no way for you to do your own work. Oil changes done in your garage are considerably cheaper than those done at the dealership. Plus, you get to choose the oil and filter you want to use, not whatever the dealer has in stock. The dealers push them pretty hard because they make a huge profit on them.
Repair contracts are a little differant; sometime they're worth it and sometimes they're not. It's just another form of insurance. You'r betting the truck will break and you'll need the insurance. The dealership is betting it won't.
Get one that covers the big stuff, like turbo, diff, and trans. The bumper to bumper ones are a real waste of money. Unless you're willing to go to a dealer for every little thing.
And spend the time to haggle with them. When I bought my truck, they offered me a contract for $1200! Yeah, 12 grand. I told him for that much money I better get a spare truck. We haggled and brought it down to less than $1K.

I will only get the Chrysler extended warranty on all the new cars and trucks I have perchased. I have the service work done at the dealer when it is called for in the owners manual. All other work I do at home. There are differant "levels" of coverage, I always get the contract that covers the electronics in the truck. The trucks today are rolling computers, and we all know how reliable microsoft has been over the years.

I have a 6yr/100K Chrysler MaxCare on my 06 3500. I bought it online in early 2007 after I bought the truck new. I paid $1750 for it, with $100 deductible. You can get other deductibles as well.
So far, it has covered:
- front pinion seal twice
- two bad u-joints
- ball joints upper and lower
- A/C blend door
- intermediate steering shaft
- 6-disc CD changer
This all cost me about $300 in deductibles, since the deductible is per visit, not per covered repair. I try to "save up" my repairs so I get multiple repairs covered in one visit.
My steering is getting sloppy now, so I suspect tie rod ends, maybe some other front end stuff. I'll wait until it gets a bit worse before taking it in...

I financed new Dodge trucks up until 07. Maxcare is a great warranty. A 5/75 on a new 4x4 at that time was 1200 cost if I recall but not sure. I am getting old and the memory is not strong. If purchasing maxcare go with a 0 deductable. The better the warranty the lower the deductable that you will want. Maxcare covers items that are under !00 and with that amount of coverage you don't want to wait for a few more fixes to save the 100 deduct.I think the 0 deduct was 250 more than a 100 deduct.verify that maxcare is good outside the U.S. meaning Canada or Mexico. It use to be. Maxcare was a great no hassle warranty.

If purchasing new Chrysler will contact you while under warranty with prices that are better than the dealer. The 7/100 is expensive warranty. Make sure in 7 years that you have 100k on. If you drive more than that shorten up the term. I think cost on that is around 1700 but not sure anymore.

do you think that the sooner i buy the insurance the better? or should I wait? I called Chrysler and they said the sooner you buy it the better. Not sure if that is just a sales pitch though

I've done it twice and both times it did not work for me. The dealer can find more ways to wiggle out of covering your problem than you can think of. Take the money and deposit it in a bank account all seperate from your other savings. Use it to pay for the big break down if and when it happens.

Try getting some online quotes, some dealers operate under an Internet name online, and sell the Chrysler warranties. One example is eservicecontracts.com.
This is how I bought mine, my local dealer wanted $2700 as well, he would not or could not touch the $1750 price I got online....
Just make sure you are getting a Chrysler warranty, not a third-party warranty.
