If you are installing just an alarm then you should not have to worry about it. If you are installing a remote start then you need a part from DEI. Part # 556CW. It fakes the ignition into thinking there is a key in it.

My 06 DOES NOT have the Sentry system on it, did not say anything on the window sticker either. Of course mine is a ST with REAL windows and locks, no power....no cheater meter or ulgy wood trim either!!!.

I guess the easiest way around the Sentry system would be to glue a programed key to the inside of the steering column. Then a non chipped key would start the truck.

The bypass module for my alarm does basically that. Instead of having the whole key in the steering column you just remove the chip and insert that into the bypass module. The module goes in the column and that way someone can't find the key and steal it. I don't think the module itself would work without the alarm though.

Sentry on window sticker, black key, never "activated" anything, spare walmart cut key starts truck and then dies 2 seconds later...That's my experience. I think all trucks that have it on the window sticker means they have the chip in their keyfob.

If you start it with a non chipped key can you just put a chipped key in after and it will start or do you have to rest something before it will start again??

I went and had some copies made of my black 06 keys today. They had a chip tester(to see if I had a chip in the key) and it showed NO chip in my key So after I got home!!! I decided to try the new copies to see if my truck would still start with them..... As soon as I stuck the key in and turned it "on" I knew something was up because my Grid heater light came on... so I started it up it ran for maybe 3-5 seconds and died!!!! So yes I do have Sentry key chip in my black key's.

BTW as soon as I stuck the Sentry key back it it fired right up!

it's a chip in your truck's key and if you start the truck and it does not sense the chip the truck dies.
