Unhappy Seat belt light / chime stayed on when driving – time for dealer?

OK, something had to go wrong, but is this weird or what? I’m driving home when the seat belt warning light comes on and the @#$ chime is particularly annoying because of a hearing problem that I have.

I stopped and restarted the truck. Kept chiming.
Stopped the truck and buckled the seat belt in the unoccupied passenger seat. – Kept chiming.
I discovered what caused it. I had plugged my cell phone charger into the power outlet that is inside the center console. As soon as I unplugged the charger, the chiming quit and the light went out.

Anyone else with this problem?

Your electrons are not playing together well. Just don't plug the cell phone in there. Rather an easy solution.

Have you tried plugging a different device into that power outlet? It probably doesn't matter what is plugged into the outlet but I wonder if your charger is the problem.

I disabled my seat belt chime by inserting an insulated jumper wire between the appropriate wire connections down under the driver's seat. This tricked the chime into thinking the seat belt is plugged in. Since your chime is sounding with your seatbelt connected this won't work for you.

I tried mine today with the cell charger plugged in the center console and then tried with my GPS power plugged in, no chimes here.

Thanks for trying. My concern is that something else may be haywire. As soon as I get a break from work, I'll have it checked out. This is the only problem in 3000 miles.
