Rewiring Burnt mega dually
My friend is seriously thinking about buying a burnt 06 mega cab dually.
The guy is asking 11,500 for truck. All it needs or he doesn't have is motor, auto tranny, fender lights, headliner and wiring.
Truck has been professionally stretched to long bed.
Wondering what everyone thought??
The only thing that scares me is the wiring that's needed. Does any aftermarket sell complete new harness or parts of harness? Or just try to find another wrecker n get it's harness
thoughts n suggestions welcomed.
O not for sure on original mileage but belive it's under 50k

Seems way to high to me. Motor $8k, good tranny $5k, wiring $2K or more, salvaged title....no way. Between 25k to 27k??? Why not buy a clean titled truck and stretch it? Cost the same I would think.

Sounds very expensive, considering that a new dash harness is likely well over $1000. Same for the body harness, and same for the engine harness. Also, for each model of truck, there are probably a dozen different part numbers for dash harnesses, depending how the truck is equipped. It may be very stressful trying to get the right harness- it's bad enough at a dealer if the part number tag is missing from the harness, I would hate to be dealing with an auto wrecker trying to get the right wiring. If the original harness is melted into a glob, you don't even have anything to compare the new one to.

A slight update on the situation. Truck can be had for 8,000 now.
Origianl miles was 29,000.
The guy with burt one has found a wrecked 06 dually that can be had for 6500 for a parts doner. Assuming still all the wiring wouldn't be correct but does that make the deal seem brighter to anyone else?

Seems like a perpetual nightmare to me. Even if one had the time to completely ? re-wire a truck.
$8k for a burned up rolling chassis does not seem like a bargain.
Better off buying a high miler that is in one piece and having it stretched.
Besides, if he's that good with mechanics and has the tools to do all the work to the burnt truck including major electrical surgery, replacing engine and trans, why not jsut buy a runner and stretch it himself?
Even if he had to hire out the welding it would be better all around, plus no salvage title parts truck.
Not much science to stretching them. Heck I welded frames back together on trucks when I was 16-17 years old.
