If you can't do it by hand, use one of the claw tools that you can turn with a ratchet. Blue Point makes an excellent one. It will work with almost any filter

I purchased a socket for the end of the filter. I use a 3/8" ratchet, and a 36" long extension.
Loosen the filter then spin it off the rest of the way by hand. Slick as can be.

Did my first oil change yesterday. I used the Lisle oil filter tool from Geno's Garage. Worked great.
I've read all the posts saying the filter was nearly welded in place and I was very concerned. I had one of those huge claw-type wrenches I bought years ago--must have been made for heavy equipment filters. I planned on using it but I couldn't find the silly thing so I decided to try the Lisle tool. It was tight but not really hard to remove. I used a 1/2 inch drive rachet with extensions and a 3/8 inch adapter to fit the tool.
I also used the Ziploc baggie trick to let the filter fall into it instead of dripping oil everywhere. It would have worked better if I hadn't dropped the dang thing in my lap as I was sitting there trying to zip it up. Hot oil in the crotch! What a thrill in the morning!
