Reflashes-Fuel Mileage is horrible.

I just went on a 650 mile trip all hwy, and avg. about 12.9 mpg hand calculated. I have 4000 miles on it. This is horrible compared to my 05 6-spd. I am going in for my first oil change tomorrow, is there any reflashes I should get? Thanks

How fast were you going?

I have a very similar truck to yours but with no lift, and I've been able to get 20+ MPG highway since day 1. The city mileage has picked up about 1-2 MPG as it breaks in.

Your lift will create more aerodynamic drag, and if you're going 75+ with a lot of speed changes, I could see how your mileage would suffer.

Just wondering robertc82, did you calibrate the odometer for the bigger tires? Or did you make allowance for the larger wheels? My "gut" feeling is that would be the difference. JMO

Good luck, my best so far cruising about 1900 rpm at 70mph empty with 15000 miles is around 14.8 to 15 mpg. Around 380 miles I better be looking for a gas station. I have tryed slower driving 65 mph and faster 75 mph with only not even a 1/2 mpg difference. Love the power and the truck, but wish I could get just some of the mileage others claim.

no flashes help, they just mess up the overhead readings. slow down to 1950 rpm and take off a little slower and I guarantee your mileage will go up considerably.

1900 RPM at 70? I would think it should be around 2100 or 2200.

I'm at 2000rpm's at 72-73mph.

Even at 14.5mpg you should still get around 500 miles per tank, why look for gas at 380 miles?

I commute stop and go 23 miles each way for 45-60 minutes, my display reads 440 miles to go at fill-ups. I still have less than 10k with no towing yet, so I haven't broken her in yet.

My best was 19.1 at 65-70mph a round trip of almost 300 miles, stopped on the way home for pizza and beer about 30 miles short of home, wife took over driving from there, 80-85mph (dropped to 18.6mpg)

Not broken in yet...

If you have just 4000 miles on the truck, its not even broken in yet. I did not start seeing good milage until after 15K and it got better from there. Also, you need to recalabrate the speedo, and slow down a bit. I can get 20++ miles to the gallon at 65 with 315's and 3.73:1 on my 04.5. You may also want to switch to synthetic after 15K, that seemed to help.

I am taking it in for an oil change in the morning and will see if they will re-calibrate it for me. I know I shouldnt even worry about mileage considering the weight and sticker price but its still a challenge. I love my truck either way but I am always up for the challenge. Thanks for the help!

He is looking for a gas station becuase the low fuel light is on. I never get close to using all 34 gallons and the needle could be pinned all the way to the left. The most I ever could jamm in is 30.6 gallons once on a 34 gallon tank. Plus his speedo is off with the bigger tires

I drive 90% highway and at 65/1700rpm or 55/1450rpm and either way I end up with 14.5mpg. The truck has had 295.70-17 tires since day two. The dealer adjusted the brain to see the taller tires---verified on the button with GPS. I only have 2900 miles on the truck. Also, I use the Stanadyn additive on every tank. Still---14.5 is discouraging.

I run 1900 rpms at 70 and have a fairly light foot. Sometimes I think I am babying it to much. Does anyone know the actual mileage difference with 305/70's?

Ahhh! mileage posts......
I have 25,000 mi on my '06. Pulling a 3500# cargo trailer, my overhead says 15.2 at 75mph (2100 rpm) actual (hand calc) is 12.2 at 80 it drops to 13/10. This is driving I-10 between TX and CA.
I had the computer flashed at 15000 mi, all that did was make my interior lights turn off after 15 seconds (a real pain in the @##!
My advice is to drive it for the amazing Hwy hauler it is and forget about fuel mileage cause you aint gonna get any!
