dont waste your money on the stock crap. go buy a real navigation system from pioneer or something simular. it will save you alot of headache and you will have a real stereo that can also play dvd's....................

Thanks for the advice, it is a consideration, but i am not sure what makes the pioneer or something a better nav system that the REC from Chrysler.

pretty much everything about it makes it better. The chrysler stock stereo's are a joke and very cheesy quality... Do some research and you will see why not to go with a stock one.

OK you navigation guru's, if I want to keep my stereo (& 6 CD changer, Laramie standard), what would you guys suggeset? Preferably something with a big enough screen so I can read it. Stereo has some weaknesses, but it would be big bucks to rip it out and put in something new, upgrade speakers, etc. slippery slope...

By the way, I don't need a DVD player 'cause we have one of those that hang off the headsets - kids love it - and we love it since the kids use headphones and we listen to what we want to out of the front speakers.

Steve, Canadian Tire had an 8" or 9" screen Tom Tom unit on special before xmas for 299 or 399. Don't bother getting one unless its upgradable and Tom Tom compatible. I use a color Garmin. ks

You are going to have two big problems trying to use an REC in your truck:

1. The size of the REC is much bigger that RB1.
2. The biggest problem is that the RB1 uses the PCI bus to talk to the trucks controllers where as the REC uses the newer CAN bus and I have not seen any magic black box converters being talked about yet!

Thanks some information I can use. I knew about the larger size in the REC over the other systems, that was always going to be a problem. Now the CAN bus, that is something different. If the CAN bus isn't in the 2005 RAM trucks then the REC is not an option.

Thanks
Thom

CAN Bus has been around a while but in new in the 06 DR truck and has be a problem for some as it takes a different scanner to talk to it and some things we have found usefull on DRBIII just are not there yet on new scanner like changing info for different tire sizes.
