Rear sway bar for '03?

I don't have one on my 3500 dually and sure would like one since I carry a 3500lb slide in camper. Does anyone know if there is a swaybar available?

DC doesn't have one and I have not seen any aftermarket units. DC felt the rear swaybar was not required due to the wider frame rails and therefore the wider base of support for the suspension on the axle. Mine certainly feels very stable with my fiver on board.

Casey

Re:Rear sway bar for '03?

fiver as in 5th wheel I assume? If that's the case I think having a 3500 lb dead weight with a high center of gravity in the bed is different than using the truck as a tow vehicle where most of the weight is resting on the trailers wheels not over the Rams rear axle.

I believe the dynamics of the chassis would be much different between your towed rig and my rig which sits in the bed.

The truck sits level with the camper and no air bags. When this thing turns it leans big time I have had many people comment as to the way the rig looks when cornering. That's why I need an anti-sway bar.

I do have 3000 pounds on the pin but you are right, there is a difference in dynamics. If you cannot find a rear stabilizer, a set of Timbrens might be just what you need to add the stability you are looking for. I found the cheapest price at stuff4truck.com but you will need to email them as they don't list them on line. Part number TIMDR3500C and they are $155 including shipping. They only take a few minutes to install and are variable rate Aeon rubber springs replacing the rubber bumpers on the frame above the rear axle. I just bought a set to avoid the bottoming out on rough Michigan roads.

Dodge engineered into the new frame greater stiffness and wider stance. The side to side stability without swaybar is much better than 2nd gens with sway bar. You have it built into the new design. Too many 2nd gens found the sway bar was not the solution and pulled them. I have great stability towing my high profile 5er.

Re:Rear sway bar for '03?

I traded in an '01 2500. It came without a rear swaybar also. I installed a Sway-A-Way bar on it and the difference was dramatic. Not just a little better, but much better. To tell you the truth I was very disappointed in the way my 3500 dualie handles the camper during slow turns. On the road of course it's like it's not there.

I do have airbags on order, hopefully that will help some.

"Refrigerator White", the only color if you live in the sunny sun-belt.

Side to side sway, lean on turns with a slide-in is a function of extremely high center of gravity. Trucks are designe to have load center of gravity between bed rails. Slide-ins have their center of gravity well above the bed rails. Each slide-in's Cof G is different. ??? ???

Re:Rear sway bar for '03?

I just installed Rancho 9000’s today. Was just not happy with the sway when loaded. Lance 1030 witch loaded is just over 12,000 pounds GVW on 03 Dodge 3500 DRW . The shocks really did the trick.
