rear end gear howling????
Anyone heard thier rear end make a slight howl? I have heard cars/trucks in the past do this when ring and pinion was setup wrong. Mine seems to have a noticable moan. I am going to take to dealer but I am sure they wont hear anything, or admit they hear it because I have about 4000 miles left on warranty.Just wondered if anyone has any experience dealing with dealers on similar items. If dealer wont do anything do I call Dodge?

Not unheard of with the AAM axle. Mine started howling at 12k and DC replaced the ring and pinion. Some have had the entire axle assembly replaced. Start with the dealer and make sure it is documented.

Has the rear been serviced? How many miles do you have? I had a issue with mine when hot stoped making a turn it would make noise. I changed the gear oil to red line 75 90 now its quiet.

I had the same problem with the 03 I recently sold. After several attempts to try and have it repaired, I finally requested a meeting with the area rep and dealer decided to rebuild the rear end. After being rebuilt it was worse and they then replaced the complete axle assy.I did call AAM after the dealer told me there was a shortage of 11.5 rears at the time and was told there was no shortage, magically the axle assy arrived at the dealer the very next day.I've decided that the only thing a service manager comprehends is a little bit of hell raising, being nice just don't cut it with most of these these boneheads. If you have a good one you are very fortunate because they are few and far between. Do not let them get by with shafting you, these trucks cost to much money and you shouldn't have to put up with that kind of treatment.

Dealer replaced my entire driveline at about 48k, then they heard the rear-end howl and replaced the gears. Silent since then. Total cost: $100 deductible. Recommend you get to the dealer immediately.

Mine was howling at 500km. Service manager said it had to "set up a gear pattern". It was getting worse and worse, and he kept BSing it was a gear pattern. Finally took it to a good mechanic at another dealer who drove it, and said I needed the gear set. They replaced it at 12000km, and it's been excellent since!
