rear diff. fluid change?

I have 45,000 miles on my truck and I have not changed my rear diff fluid yet. 90% of those mile are easy highway with no load. When should I change it? To change it do I have to take the cover off?
Thanks for the help.

Have you looked at the schedule "A" maintenance requirement in your owners manual? I think you'll find that you are overdue.

Very overdue. Just do it, it's easy. Change your front as well. Take off the covers, drain, wipe out any gunk on the bottom with a lint free rag. The gasket is re-usable front and rear.
