Quick question for y'all.

I know I'm not on here often mostly because I don't yet own or have the money for the third gen I want but I have a specific model I would like to know a tad bit more about.

I'm looking for a truck almost exactly like this.

Info I would really like to have:

What color is this? I love it!
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it only came in years 07+ if so it will make a 5.9 mega cab difficult to find since the 6.7 started in 08.
The bumper on this truck is not what I want. There is a different style with a chrome lower piece. Is that on a certain trim package or is it just a random option?
What colors are available for the interior?
Can 02-06 tail lights be installed on these trucks? I haven't looked at them in person to see if they are interchangeable as far as plug and play with the stock wiring harnesses.
Are there common issues with running HID's on these trucks since they have a single headlamp for high and low beam?
Is there any difference in engine tuning between this body style and the older 03-05? Or is it the same H.O. That is in the 05.5?
Any common issues with the truck itself all around? Interior electronics, engine management, suspension brakes steering? I know that before the 6.7/Aisin combo the transmissions aren't the greatest. And I've heard word that they eat front end parts.

I'm fairly educated on the cummins trucks but I am by no means an expert. I did work at a dodge dealer for awhile so I have seen my way around these things here and there. I was not a diesel tech sadly so I never got a chance to get an in depth look at these trucks. That's why I came here.

Thank y'all in advance for the help!

-Tyler-

The 6.7 came in '07.5 trucks. You could always get a paint job.

A bumper is cosmetic and based on the trim package.

What colors are available for the interior?
Don't know the technical name, but light gray, dark gray and light brown.

Don't know. But can be found in a search.

There can be. There are threads/write ups. Search for those. I'll be doing the same thing to put it in front of you as I haven't done HIDs.

Is there any difference in engine tuning between this body style and the older 03-05?
yes, 06-07 have different computer than 03-05. Best tuner available is EFI and it is not available for 03-05.

Or is it the same H.O. That is in the 05.5?
Crossover period made vehicles are tough to pinpoint. Look at each individual engine to be sure of build date and version.

Yes.

Interior electronics, engine management, suspension brakes steering? I know that before the 6.7/Aisin combo the transmissions aren't the greatest. And I've heard word that they eat front end parts.
Yes, the truck comes with an interior, engine, suspension, brakes and steering.

Resprays can be expensive and you can always tell if a truck has even repainted unless it's stripped for a complete job which is VERY expensive. Even if you tear it down yourself it's time consuming. If prefer to buy as is and not worry about it

I kinda figured but needed confirmation.

dark grey would be my preference here.

I have done a little bit of reading on them ad from what I have seen on third gen style rams so far is the low buck kits flicker pretty bad/misfire like a ****/just plain don't work on either high or low depending on installer's common sense level. I don't know how much I would trust the magnetic high/low harnesses. Seems like a viable option in theory but I have yet to witness one in practice. I think recon sells headlight housings with separate bulb sockets for high and low but I would have to look Into it better.

My reason for going with the 06-07 exactly. I want the EFILive compatability. Without a doubt it is the BEST tuning available. I've done a lot of reading online and my massive stack of diesel power mags.

That was my bad. Those two were supposed to be one question. Hahah excuse my fat fingers. I was looking for any common issues with the interior, susp., etc.

I will be reading up on here as I get closer to purchase territory financially. I have some outstanding bills I want to pay, a gf of three years to help put through college and such so I'm not in a position to buy a $15,000+ truck just yet.

Thanks again! If this site has a reputation system you're getting some from me for sure.

Yup, I get that. Point I was making is when you finally find a truck and it has what you're looking for, the color ends up taking a back seat. And then you'll find out if you really want a color or if you want the truck. When I was shopping years ago for my truck I really wanted the dark gray. It was dark gray or nothing. Well, that was a big fat lie I kept telling myself. When I found a truck fitting my parameters it didn't matter that it was light khaki metallic. It was the most beautiful truck I had ever seen. Colored be danged! So I totally understand having a color in mind.

Mine too. But mine was slate grey which is the lighter of the two. But again, considering the rest of the truck was what I was looking for, I was ok with it. If I really wanted to change the interior color, I could do an interior swap, repaint or covers. Perhaps down the line when things are all old and torn up needing a replacement I'll redo.

Lol I know, I was giving you a hard time.

The 06s(and not certain of the range to) don't have great seat foam or interior fabric. I don't know why but the foam is chincy and the fabric stains if you breathe on it. Lots of guys have replaced both because they wear out. I'm a lightweight so I have no problem with the seat foams. But I have stained the fabric getting in wet & dirty. I suggest seat covers. I need some, right now I just throw in beach towels if I know I'll be driving dirty.

The suspension itself isn't "broken", just stiff, especially unloaded. Aftermarket coil springs and good shocks help tune the ride for the conditions you use your truck for.

The steering is where you'll notice the problems. At this point Mopars new big steering box and Tstyle linkage is the best setup. Read reviews it negates the need for a steering box brace too.

Ball joints and hub assemblies can be problematic but chalk it in the early maintenance column. Use quality parts.

Well color is a huge deal and when the money is there I won't be opposed to traveling for the right truck. I live in the rust belt so I'd like a clean snow free regions truck anyways. I will have a winter driver so I can keep the cummins as nice as possible. My dad has had both style 3rd gen rams. Both 2500 hemi's though. He's a huskier guy and the seat foam wore out on his 03 too. He's got an 07 now which I have encouraged him to maintain meticulously and so far he's keeping up. Synthetics everywhere, keeping up with intervals etc. seat covers will be a for sure deal. Along with some hydro dipped trim parts along the way.

Bustin chops is always fun. I'm kinda out of it right now. Plowed all night and now at my full time job til this afternoon. I'm a little off my game at the moment hahaha.

It'll be a summer daily, tow rig, street demon, occasional drag, and one hook to a sled just for the experience. No lift will be planned. Don't need it since you can clear 35s with a simple leveling kit.

I'm a sucker for regular maintenance and such so after some good amounts of reading I should have a decent idea of what gets changed when

Don't know if you've actually priced out 3rd gens or not, but it's gonna be a bit more than 15K.

My 06 blue books at 24K for private sale or 28K on a dealer lot, that doesn't take into account my 6" lift and 35X12.50's.

Quick question for y'all.

I'm low balling as an estimate for a down payment. I don't want to take out a massive loan and would like to have at least that much saved for down payment before looking to buy. It's my form of security. Sorry about the confusion. Second gens are still going for 18k in some of the more rust free regions. I'm looking to spend around 25-28k. And I won't be ready to buy for a few more years so there is time for the market value to drop a little. I was born at night. But not last night

that reduces the price because it's a mod that is not justified or wanted

Sorry for the long wait. I've been a plowing FOOL lately. On top of a full time job I work and sleep and eat if I'm lucky. But I love every second!

Depends on the truck. They sell lifted trucks from the factory now with outrageous price tags. It's sad really. But that's a rant/debate for another thread.

I don't want the long bed conversion. It was the only electric blue one I could find with a Road Armor bumper.

Right???? I've seen it in person every bit as awesome as the pics. I'd be ecstatic to own one. Even if I was forced to keep it bone stock! But as a HD truck mechanic the first thing to go would be egr, and a tune to correct the ECM/PCM/I forgot what dodge calls their engine management system.
And of course an intake and exhaust.

After that is some aesthetic mods and creature comforts. I want to test drive one if I can find a late third gen 5.9 around here. Color doesn't matter I just want to familiarize myself with the interior and such.

So anyone know of common big headlight third gen issues?
