I was trying to install a set of back-up lights tonight and I can't figure out which color wire to tap into, I read a diagram on the internet and it stated the yellow wire. This was coming out of the 7-pin trailer connector. Does anyone know which color wire i need to tap into to get the back-up lights either off of the 7-pin connector or which color wire off of the regular truck back-up lights????

By any chance you trying to install a White Night light kit?? I will post the pin out of the wiring manual shortly.

Out of the 2005 wiring diagram manual. Hope this helps, I will be installing my White Night backup light kit tomorrow.

Maybe this better. I think the CAV 4 - 14RD/VT is the primary power wire, I cant get out under the truck until the morning to verify.

That does help to see better, does that giver wire color in there somewhere abbreviated maybe? im not understanding still which wire is which under the truck

Ok I tried to get a quick look at the connect wires in the conduit. Too dark, I can let you know in the morning. That is when I am going to install mine.

L1 18wt/lg = 18gauge wire white with light green tracer.
A100 14rd/vt = 14 guage wire red with violet tracer.

I finished the install of the White Night backup light kit. Not too bad, pretty straight forward. I followed the instructions and used the wiring diagram above to verify the wires colors.

Power for White Night tapped into Red with Purple/Violet stripe.
Backup control for relay tapped into White with Light Green stripe.
Ran the ground wire to a small hole on the frame below the hitch bracket.

Everything seems to work fine.

How will the light work? Is it on when you back up and if so can you just turn it on by itself also? And one more question how hard would it be to slide a hitch into the reciever for towing? Thanks!!

just installed mine today also, tapped into the white with light green tracer and used hole for ground also. worked real well, thanks for the help everyone!

Lokin4deer- to my understanding, the white nights have a swith to come on at back-up, turn on manually for when outside the truck if needing light, and an off for no power.

The light kit has a 3 position switch on the back. Switch position is on anytime, switch position is off always and switch position 3 is on when vehicle backup lights are on.

I will slide a hitch in tomorrow and leave it in so I don't back into anything with the lights. Doesn't look too hard, just have to kinda feel around in back to insert the hitch bolt. I will update when I put it in.

WOW!! Let there be light. I can now backup with my mirrors at night without worrying. It is night and day difference

just got a chance to go out and test them in the dark. WOW! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!! they work perfect. i bought these at Meijer in the auto section, back-up lights that mount to the reciever. cost $19.95. 55w bulbs
I'll try to get some pics in the day light for those who are interested
