I have a wilson 1000 roof mount antenna mounted on a home made drivers fender mount. I just bent a piece of aluminum on the brake, drilled 2 holes in it and bolted it to an existing fender bolt just under the hood. it works great. had no trouble getting my swr's down to 1 1/2 on both 1 and 40. talks great .

Don't confuse having a good SWR with having good signal propagation.

wasnt confused about anything and never said a word about signal "propagation" whatever that is. if you are refering to RX strength , its fine. it doesnt recieve as well as my galaxy dx2547 ssb base but it had a vfo bfo and freq counter with 16 element beam mounted on a 300ft tower so I wouldnt expect it to. I said "I was able to tune my antenna to the radio perfectly where others couldnt and it talks and recieves great." obviously as close to the center of the ground plane(vehicle) and on the highest point available (top of cab) is the best place to mount an antenna but for some of us that just isn't practicle. I frequently haul a cab over camper which eliminates the top of the cab as a mounting point. the fender works great for me and I have very good range.

Well first I got my radio for free to use from my brother in-law not sure if its that great or not its a Cobra 29LTD Classic seems like a pretty standard radio to me. Second I havent even gotten any antenna's yet cause wasnt sure what and where so why buy them yet? Third to be honest and no offense to people that like them there but I think antennas mounted on the roof look ugly IMO.

I am not a hardcore CB guy so optimum performace doesnt matter to me as long as I know whats going on ahead of me a mile or 2 thats fine by me and if my brother in-law happens to be behind me when we are hauling together the ability to talk to him would be nice as well.
