Questions on a Ford guy buying a new Dodge
I am in what looks and I hope is the end of my buyback with my current truck. It is a 2006 F350 SRW CC LB 4x4 Lariat with the 6.0L engine. While I do like the truck, the engine is another story. So soon I will be purchasing a new truck, I am Seriously considering the Dodge, IM an Affiliate member and can get invoice minus 1%, add that to the current incentives and a sizable down payment, thanks to the buyback, and it is a good buy.
I purchased my current F350 cause I was over weight and other reasons on my old F250, I was at 9400 lbs, with my current trailers tongue weight 1050lbs and my Harley, 900lbs or golf cart, 1000 lbs, trailer is 10K when loaded for vacation. I'm looking at adding 2000 lbs to the truck what ever I purchase. I see that the 2500 has a GVWR of 9200 lbs so if the truck does not weigh more than 7200 lbs I'm OK. Will a 2500 quad cab LB 4x4 weigh 7200 lbs or less?
I was just going to get a 3500 SRW with the 5.9, but they are not easy to find here in South Florida, the 06 and 07 2500 are every where, I kinda wanted to stay away from the 07.5 with all of the new emissions crap but will consider if the 2500 would nut cut it, I know it will pull the weight but I like to stay within the ratings.
Of course if I can find a SRW 3500 this is not a problem.
I guess the other question I have is should I even be looking at the 5.9L and just look at the 6.7L even with all of the emmisions stuff?
Thanks

put a old 12 valve into it, get rid of the 6.0, of course that is a huge undertaking, just a thought though. best bet is go to the dealership and look at trucks and their weight ratings.

I'm with you PSD. I'm glad mine's a '05. I'm not real crazy about the new diesels that have all that emissions stuff on it. Ford had to add another turbo to help power it. Too much stuff for my liking.

My 07 5.9 2500 4x4 weighs about 7400# actual scale weight with the 5th wheel hitch in and a full tank of fuel. I have heard of weights from about 7200 to 7700 lbs so you probably be heavier than you want. But as above, just put a set of Firestone air bags and you should be good to to. The only difference betweent he 2500 and 3500 is an extra overload spring in the rear spring pack (other than the weight rating door sticker). So safely increase the carrying capacity with the air bags and you now have a 3500 capiblel truck. Overall towing is 20000 lbs and truck rating is 9000 lbs, not 9200. I scale 19800 fully loaded and am uhder all ratings except the 9000 one. Am under axle and total weight ratings so not worried about it.

06PSD4ME : Have you checkedwith Arrigo Dodge in Palm Beach. They are off the Turnpike and Okeechobee. I got my 07 2500 quad cab 4x4 long bed with the thunder road package for under $34,000 new. They have alot off trucks on the lot, probably around 200 trucks or more.

I really liked the 6 speed tranny with the 6.7l, but im really cautious of all of the emissions stuff, but it was a really nice engine and tranny combo. SO I think I would like to stick with the 5.9l, hey if I don't like it I can get rid of it and get a 6.7l later, but if I go the other route, most likely I would not be able to find the 5.9l (new).

2500 2wd mega cab is 6800 on the paperwork. I would stick w/ the 5.9 myself. If you cannot find a 3500 srw you can always just add a leaf spring or some overload springs.
Check out loadhelper dot com, I had some of these on my 1500 they were fantastic and when you didn't need 'em they were just "gone"

He'd driven my past 2003 RAM 2500 Quad Cab CTD 305/555 and NV5600, and he wanted to drive the new truck in my signature. He asked me how I liked it...I said I liked everything but the 3.0 to 3.5 mpg lower rural fuel economy currently (my '03 had 50.9k miles on it when sold.....my '07.5 just turned over 1,203 miles this evening). My economy seems to be going up on this 3rd tank.....I think it'll be close to my '03 soon. He seemed to be quite impressed with the truck....and the 14.6 mpg avg for the first two tanks I've ran through it.
He said he's generally quite lucky to hit 13 mpg......most of the time he's in the 12's.
In addition, my '07.5 RAM 3500 MegaCab had a shipping weight of 7,291 lbs on the original invoice.
