Purchase of Extended Warranty

Re:Purchase of Extended Warranty
The dealer that said it would cost more to buy it a week after the in-service date was not being truthfull. DC charges an extra $100 if it is after 12months or 12,000 miles, $300 if it is after 24months or 24,000miles, and $500 if it is after 36 months or 36,000 miles. If you pass the 3/36 mark, you only have until the 4/48 mark to buy it, after that, your on your own.

What are the differences between max and added care?
It's just too much detail to explain here but basically Max Care covers just about everything except wear items, while added care only covers engine, transmission, driveline, steering, AC,engine cooling and fuel, front and rear suspension, electrical, instrumentation and brakes. I received my information in the mail.

Re:Purchase of Extended Warranty
Thanks Ken. Seems like added care covers most of the major components. I'm trying to think of an example of something max care would cover but not added...?

The booklet states concerning Maximum Care :
"The only parts and labor not covered are; Maintenance services and items used in such services, Glass, plastic lenses, Body and paint items, including soft trim, Wear items and Snow Plows and hitches.
Max Care also covers Rental car and trip interruption protection if away from home 100 miles or more.

Re:Purchase of Extended Warranty
I just called my dealer and will get his prices on Monday. We will find out if any difference between DC mailing and dealers exist.

If not WHY?
I have not, and never will. These warranties are offered because DC believes that they will make money on them. IF your financial situation is such that a significant unexpected repair would cause a real burden, an extended warranty may be worth it to reduce that risk. I prefer to roll the dice. I have NEVER owned a vehicle with a post warranty maintenance history that would have justified the cost ofan extended warranty. Maybe I am lucky. I also never, never, never buy the road hazzard warranty on tires.

All plans allow you to select and pay for the number of miles that you want to insure. Maximum Care in addition to covering many more parts allows rental car allowance plus trip interruption protection.

Re:Purchase of Extended Warranty
Sounds like Added care may be a safer bet. Sure without an extended you can roll the dice. I had it backfire with my tahoe, extended till 100k, then everything fell apart afterward. However, the peace of mind knowing you're protected really helps, as posted above.

Does the factory 3/36 bumper to bumper cover rentals and trip interruption?

Re:Purchase of Extended Warranty
Got my 03 in March and D/C offered a 5/50 bumper to bumper certificate to previous owners(had a 99 CTD) directly through the mail. Got it registered at the dealer, they say its worth $850.00. Can't go wrong. $.02

I traded in a 2001.5 CTD in January and didn't get this certificate. : Did anyone else receive this offer? Inquiring minds want to know.
