Plumbing aux fuel tank
#16
The price only seems high until you look at Transferflow and Titan. They offer tanks in the 54-56 gallon range and they are proud of them! It looks like the Aero 60 gallon saddle tank only hangs about 1" below the frame....not bad compared to some of the others that look to be about 2"+.

Modified fuel tank has been installed, plumbed, and filled. The original tank was 100 gallons, the modified tank, is 47+ gallons. I'm just glad I won't have a fuel ticket that big, too often. Thanks guys.

I just picked up a 12v fuel transfer pump by Mr. Gasket part #12D. I'm going to run a line into the filler tube from this little transfer pump. Wire a switch in the cab for the pump. I like the ball valve idea but if it fails I don't like the idea of spilling $4 a gal fuel on the ground. The only problem is I will have to remember to shut it off when it's full.

for plumbing a second tank we used the ford 1992-1997 selector valve from the diesel equipt pickups and the ford interior switch. its a reverse polarity setup in the switch and valve which makes switching the return and supply lines a one step deal. and the selector valve controls the sending unit wires also. so only one wire goes up to the cab and fuel gauge and two wires come down from the selector switch. everything else is down on the frame rail.
on the truck i helped do this on we had the air dog mounted just ahead of the selector valve so it would pull fuel from what ever tank the selector valve tells it to. the front tank is a stock modified vant tank holding 42+ gallons. the rear is a modified 45 gallon tank that my friend found might have been a ford transfer flow tank, there are better options if a person looks around on the internet, possibly a suburban 42 gallon tank might work, not sure where he found it but it fit nicely, put an extra fuel door on the side of the truck behind the rear wheel well and painted it all looks stock, spare tire can no longer mount under the truck. but 80+ gallons of capacity tucked up and under there.

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you running an auxilary fuel tank in your truck are using gravity feed or if you have a valve in line. I just picked up a 440L slip tank that sits over the whole floor of the truck and only sits up about 9 inches so I can still load the quad.or put a box cover on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Mine is gravity fed. At the tank I installed a ball valve, then the hose into a filter/seperator, into another ball valve. From there, the hose goes onto the fill neck adapter, unit my primary tank. I installed the ball valves for a couple of reasons, primarily filter change and possible leaks. The link for the adapter is earlier in this post.

I installed a 12 gal boat tank in my toobox with a small pump to transfer to the main by flipping a switch. Most of the time it's fine but sometimes it starts gravity feeding by siphon. I need to add a ball or other valve to prevent this. Does anyone know of an inexpensive electric valve that would serve this purpose?

They're not real cheap, but this is what I've run on my last 2 setups and haven't had a problem with them.
