Plumbing aux fuel tank

I am picking up a 75 gallons aux fuel tank this evening. The tank, has a rotary pump on it, but I would like to tie it into my primary tank. I plan on getting a locking fuel cap for the primary tank, and always fueling up thru the aux tank. My first thought, was to remove the 3/4" line from the fill neck, cap the neck, then run that hose to the aux tank. Is this the best way to do it, or is there another way? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You can buy a kit made for this, it has a check-ball valve and is designed to be automatic but most people I know still install a brass ball valve just for safe keeping. They "T" into the 3/4 hose. Try Northern Tool or TSC.

I got that kit from Northern Tool built by RDS. I am right in the middle of the hook up. The kit uses the fill hose instead of the return 3/4" hose. I was not able to use the filler hose adapter because of the pipe used with my Mega cab long bed extension. Therefore I got the correct fittings to put the check valve into the 3/4" return line and will be installing it on Sunday...in a heated shop!
The kit came with a gate valve that threaded into my 3/8" bottom fitting on my taylor wings fuel tank.

You might be able to source what you need as opposed to buying the kit.

Scotty, do you have a part number, or description, for the kit? How much was it? Thanks guys. If all works well, I will be installing it either this weekend or next.

This is the same kit I am using with my 65 gallon bed tank. I am adding fuel into the filler neck. I got mine from Northern Tool.

Mine is plumbed with a ball valve at the tank along with a 12 Volt shutoff valve that will be wired through a toggle switch to a keyed power source. That way I can turn it on and off at will and it will also shut off flow whenever I shut the truck off. I'm tying into the filler hose with a hose barb with a fitting welded in the side to T in.

I have some pics near the end of my Air Dog install in my sig. All parts from Princess Auto. Works great.

Post #2. Fuel tank through filter, through electric solenoid valve, through fuel pump, into my vent tube.

I have a aux tank in the bed that I plumbed into the oem tank via the abandon factory vent line. I have put the vent mod on thus the spare line. Also it is gravity fed through a manual shutoff valve into a 2 mic. filter and then into the oem tank. HTH

idid simular to dezeldog i have a 100 gallon tank i welded a 1/4 npt fitting on the bottom of the aluminum tank and cut a hole through the bed a ball valve to a sediment bowl to a 2 micron filter to a t in the filler hose i only fill the aux tank and all of our trucks we did this to still have the stock filter in them from the factory. it is easy to tell when to change the filter. it quits filling the tank http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...rljr48/180.jpg

Carl, what kind of filter are you using?? I have a 2mic racor but it is quite small and I can only get about 10k miles worth of fuel through it before it needs to be changed. I'd be interested it that bigger filter that you're using. TIA

If I can ask, do they make an aux tank that goes under the truck?
I just bought a new truck, and would like to carry more fuel for range, thanks.

The only company I'm aware of that makes an additional auxilary tank that is not bed mounted is Aero Tanks. They make a tank that mounts behind the rear axle in the spare tire location. The spare tire is still retained in that location but just sits under the tank which makes it hang a bit lower. I'm not 100% sure but I believe it was only intended to work with their high capacity replacement saddle tank that takes place of the OE tank. In essnence, you have to buy both. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the rear auxilary tank requires the replacement tank for filling and draining. IIRC, this combo allowed for a 75 gallon fuel capacity with nothing in the bed.

Edit: Yup, the #D75: http://www.aerotanks.com/veh/dodge.htm

Try Titan Tanks. I believe their replacement tank is around 40 or 50 gallons. A little pricey but worth looking into as they bolt directly in place of the factory tank. I only use my 100 gal aux tank if I'm taking a trip somewhere.....and with fuel prices right now, it's gonna sit in the storage shed for a while. When I do put my aux tank back in all I have to do is bolt it in and connect the rubber 3/8 line back up to the ball valve in the bed.

Thanks Nut, I looked, and while the range would be nice, they hang down to low when offroad, and the prices are steep.
So I guess it will be jerry cans in my future, like I always had to use before.

jhenson, thanks to you also, but much the same thing.
Hang down, and price is high, call me cheap I guess.
Full stock tank, and 4 or 5 big jerry cans should get me into, and back out of the places I go.
