Everyone talks about towing, what about hauling.

-see link

http://www.turbodieselregister.com/...lease090102.htm

I find it strange my 97 chebby reg cab diesel can handle more payload than a 03 srw 3500 cummins!

geez.

now I am thinking.

Any thoughts on why it seems the cummins has the lowest payload capacity between the big three?

Re:Payload Ratings!!!

I know from personal Dodge trucks I have owned that Dodge tends to rate on the conservative side. There are so many factors that enter into payload ratings that it is impossible to draw any conclusions. Comparing the big three trucks is like comparing apples and oranges.

From the Ferd commercial showing a Ferd towing an Icebreaker I would say they tend to exagerate. I would rather buy a product that is underrated by the manufacturer and know it will do everything they say it will do and more. I would hate to spend the kind of money Ferd and GM charge for their product only to find out they had exagerated its ability to handle the load.

Re:Payload Ratings!!!

You have to take in acount alot of things with the load ratings. Any optional equipement takes away you payload, get the hemi it is lighter and you get more payload. Same thing with towing rate, a 2500 can tow more then a 3500 dually, go figure. They both have a 23,000 gross but the 2500 is lighter to start with.

Re:Payload Ratings!!!

I am beginning to think the people who are in charge of developing the payload, GCW and etcetra have never towed or calculated towing in their life.

Was talking to my grandpa about it. THe story was true in 1957 when he was looking for a 3 ton dump. The single rear wheel trucks could haul more because they weighed less empty.

Course the duals help with handling the weight.

[undecided]
