passenger vents do not blow as cold as driver vents

Okay so I noticed today as it was hot that there is a good 15-20 degree difference in my passenger vents to my driver vents.

I have dual zone climate control. Now one would think that it could not be my charge since the driver side blows cold but I didn't design the heater box so maybe one side has a easier path or something.

the driver blend motor is visible from the front and I can watch it actuate and I can hear the passenger motor actuating and will blow hotter if I turn it hot. it does blow colder with the AC on than off.

my logic leads me to two conclusions.

1. maybe my charge is low and this is a symptom
2. my passenger blend door is broken in some way not isolating the heater core from the cold air.

any body have any tips or advice? should I just go down and have my ac chagre checked to eliminate it as a variable or is there a way to tell if the passenger door is damaged without removing the box?

okay update. took a drive with my multimeter and thermal couple. I think my charge might just be low.

88 degree's ambient

temperature low with ac off

93F D 95F P

AC on

62F D 79F P

heat on

137F D 127F P

seems like It should blow colder than 62 with the AC on full blast.

It's a low charge. I just went through this a couple months ago and there have been allot of threads on the subject this summer. Evacuate and recharge, add some dye to look for the leak. Mine took a little over 1 pound.

I went to Wal-Mart, bought a can of R134a with the built-in pressure gauge, ran the A/C on Max for a few minutes, hooked up the hose to the low-pressure connector, put the whole can in, and bingo, problem solved.

That was several months ago and still works great.

This is a very common problem with these trucks, but the fix is (usually) pretty easy.

Yeah bought and 18oz can with a gauge now all vents are blowing ~50f at idle.

I will just have to watch it and do leak test if it does not last too long. I don't mind $20 every five years.

I wonder how long it has been getting progressively worse though. I will just have to measure the vent temps every 6months or so for piece of mind.

Which port is the low pressure side, the one up front by the radiator or the one in back on the accumulator?

Anyone got a picture of the port where you hook the can up to? Or a better description?

Got the same problem.

I don't have a picture but the port is located right next to the dryer/accumulator between the passenger side battery and firewall. Should have a plastic screw on cap protecting it.

Unhappy

Well , had my system evacuated and recharged and now the A/C blows even less cold than it did before ....in all vents , and the pass. side is still warmer than the drivers side.

I guess I`ll take it to the A/C shop we use at work , and see what they come up with....I didn`t think it could be that easy for me

That`s what I`m thinking , because I can smell diesel fumes inside the truck with it on recirulating mode...never had that before.
