Parking lights wire
I have an 06 and have just put roof lamps on and need to know what is the parking light wire? I read the phil dorset link but his is a 2nd generation and mine doesn't have the same colored wires. Thanks!

On a 2006 truck that came with roof lamps, the wire is white with a grey stripe. You MIGHT be able to find that wire somewhere near the driver's side A pillar.
Otherwise you should try to find a white wire with a yellow stripe which feeds the parking lights, license plate lights, etc. Don't look for this wire near the headlight switch as the headlight switch tells the computer to send out power via the wires mentioned above. You might have to find the WT/YL wire near one of the corners of the truck and you might also want to consider wiring in a relay protected by its own fuse to eliminate any overload problems.

I did my own lights on my 03 2 months ago. Its a pretty easy job if you are slightly mechanically inclined and brave enough to drill holes on your truck's roof.
I know on the 03's, and pretty sure on 06's, there is a pre-routed wire behind the passenger side A-Pillar. Mine had 2 wires, one black and the other was brown I think. Either way, the black is ground and the other is power. It even has a connector for the 3500's and when you get the lights as an option. To be sure, I just grounded the lights and touched the power wire for the light kit to the brown wire and turned on parking lights before installing them. Hope I didnt confuse everyone, sorry for the long post. Go for it, its and easy job. 1.5 to 2 hours if you have the tools.
