Overload spring question
Today I tried removing the overload spring but there wasn't enough room to get the two bolts that hold the springs together out. Is there any trick to get the overload spring out without cutting it. Id like to beable to slide it back in if I tow heavy

You have to completely remove the u-bolts and drop the axle down quite a ways. You'll also probably find the two bolts that hold the pack together are likely rusted to it, and you'll have to drive a punch from the top to get them to move down. In any event, it's not a 10 minute job to reinstall if you're considering towing, so you may want to keep that in mind.

Mine is up on jack stands (on the frame) right now doing this same thing. I removed the overloads from the top and that massive thick leaf from the bottom. I am installing 5000 lbs air bags in their place so I only have 3 leafs left. I needed new center bolts due to not enough thread on the originals and new u-bolts for the same reason.
