Question ordering my 05 next week

Hey guys, i have been reading and searching here for a week or two, GREAT INFO HERE!!
i am sure these are stupid questions to you, but any help would be great.

I am ordering my 05 Ram 3500 next week (trading in my 2001 Lightning), but i have 3 unanswered questions (the dealer here knows nothing). I need a 3500/ Quadcab/ 4x4/ I will have a goose neck, but I need to find out what are the max tow rates for :

1. Dually VS. the SRW:
As I don’t want a dually, but if I means I can tow more I need it. The loads I will be hauling will have to go through scales in Utah and California, can I get in trouble for towing too much? (more thank the truck is rated for)?

2. Does long bed VS. short bed make a dif. On towing?

3. Is there more than one diesel motor available in 05? 600/610? Is one better?

i need to tow was much as i can, but if i can get a shortbed SRW that is what i want.

Thanks,
Dustin

Try this link http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/Towi...324&rid=google

If the link works you can put in the specs for the truck you want & get the tow ratings

Hey "05blkram", I don't wanna rain on your parade, but did you talk to your dealer about a build cut off date?? I ordered my Ram on April 15th, and my dealer told me a week later that I really lucked out on getting mine built. He said he had to pull some strings, and in the long run, the reason Im gettin mine built is because I was disabled and needed the truck. My dealer said when he put the order in, the guy was really hesitant on putting the order through, said they were finishing up the 05's and getting ready for the 06's. Maybe you talked to your dealer and everything is fine, but I figure I'd give you a heads up, in case you have any trouble. If everything goes well, good luck, and enjoy, I hope I will.

thanks for the link works great.....i see there that it does not change the GCWR by getting a DRW truck ...... so what is the advantage?

$37K seems high. I bought my '04.5 for less than that new.

Dustin
The advantage is your payload capacity (pin weight) The site does not take into account a SRW 3500. A DRW truck has a GVW of 12200 lbs where the SRW has a GVW of 9900 lbs. The diffrence, after you figure the slightly higher vehicle weight of the DRW is about 2000 lbs extra pin weight capacity of the DRW. If you have the need to tow heavy, and get weighed, get the DRW. I have a SRW and am able to put myself over GVW, not GCWR, depending on how I load the fiver. That is with a 9000 lb trailer.

05blkram,

The limiting factor I believe is the tires. Since you only have two rear tires instead of four on the SRW trucks, that limits the GVWR to 9900. Pulling power for the GCWR it makes no difference. I believe with the 4.10 gear is 23K GCWR and with the 3.73 gear it is 21K. Course the truck is capable of pulling more and many often do, but that is the "legal" ratings. If your pin weight is not a factor then the SRW is fine but the dually does offer some extra stability.

The long bed truck will generally ride better and be more stable towing, but that is a personal preference. Either is capable of doing the job fine.

Starting with the 04.5 up to present trucks........the engines are the same. The 04.5 trucks came rated at 325hp/600 tq....but with the latest ECM reflash they are rated 610 tq too. I believe all 05's are rated 610. Probably more marketing than anything to pass up the duramax's rating of 605.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your new truck.

Sounds like a lot to me also. If it's a 4wd Laramie totally loaded out, maybe. Personally, I wouldn't want it because it's black. But that's JOIBO. I didn't realize DC offered black leather. When I bought my '03 hemi, it was charcoal, not black.

It would help if you'd load up your profile with your location (and your truck specs in your sig when you get it). The used truck market varies widely by region. What's a good deal in north Texas might not be in New Jersey.

Yeah, watch your side mirrors often, and dont cut any turns too sharp.
Enjoy

It IS HUGE compared to your Lightning! In addition changing your sig, you should add your location.
