OK gotta rant!!!!!!

OK Im sure you all know how it is when you get the new truck idus where you just think you gotta have a new truck. My buddy is gung ho on buying a new truck bc he is having issues with his. My issue with him is that he is looking at a 05 dodge 4x4 with the small V8 and it has 60,000 miles on it Im like call me before you do something stupid . Becuase god knows the small V8 dodges especially 4x4 couldnt pull the hat off your head.Anyways to make a long story short he is paying like 553 a month for 4 years which in the long run ( I added it up interest free) is way to much for the truck . Needless to say I m just trying to help a friend out but man once you get the new truck bug you cant get rid of it. Ok there is my rant.

I had to rent one of those for a week a 2005 QC with a small V8 , what a pooch that truck was. It did not have enough power to get out of it's own way. Highway MPG was 15 or 16, can't remember exactly but I know it was not even close to 17. I would stop and fill it up and figure the mileage and . See if he could rent one for a week to see if he really likes it, it's his choice.

yeah, I have a cousin like that. He didn't inherit the smart gene.

He kept talking about how he wanted a truck like mine then goes out and buys a way overpriced 2-3 year old xterra nissan for his wife at almost new price. I then told him I could have helped him find a nice stock cummins like mine for the same price .

Generally people like this buy at the corner dealer that is the only place in town that will finance... Finance an over priced vehicle for an absorbant interest rate.

He does that with work trucks too.

Worst part is the Nissan is a piece of junk and they now want to trade it in. I bet they'll get half what they paid on it 6 months later.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make'em drink. Keep that in mind if he ever needs help from you turn him down until he learns his lesson.

Good point guys but to tell the truth if I did not pull with my truck I would not be driving a diesel. To much cost up front and if the thing does not last for ever you got ripped not to mention fuel and maintinance. To many guys driving these high dollar diesel trucks instead of getting an extra inch put on their boots to feel cooler. Look as the economy and real estate values shows you what happens when people buy more than they should or can afford. Now all these stupid people have to rent houses from.

We also get stuck paying for their healthcare and retirment "benefits". Don't under estimate the power of dumb people in large groups . Maybe they should have taken care of that important stuff rather than kept up with the Jones's.

Tell your friend he is insane. First of all my dad leased an 06 1500QC SLT with the 4.7 with $2600 down his payment is $167.00/month. Second a quick check at my local dealers shows 2008's for $30,000 on the sticker so invoice minus rebates should put him about $23-24,000 out the door including tax. Also I'm sure he can find a new 2007 and just about steal it for even less $$$. $24,000 for 60 months at 6% is about $465/mo for 48 months is about $563/mo. Unless he is way upside down on what he owes on his truck it doesn't pay not to buy new. But some people are just stubborn, a guy a work refused to buy a new caravan for his wife despite the 0% for 72 months and the lifetime powertrain warranty so he bought an 07 used with 30K miles for about $4,000 less with a crappy warranty and less options and I think it was a rental trade in that he bought. My dads truck doesn't get out of its own way and he will definately get a hemi next time. He had a 95 2500 CTD that he misses every time he hooks up a trailer but at only 8-10k miles/year its tough to justify the expense of a new diesel for him, he steals mine when he tows more than his ATV trailer.

I had a 2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 2500 4x4 with the 360 V8.

I loved the truck, but it had no power (even with $1K worth of mods)!!

Gas mileage was also horrid, as I was pleased to clear 11 MPGs, but typically got 9 MPGs.

Same here, except it was a 1500 off road pkg. Great looking truck, awesome offroad for a stock full-size truck. Couldn't outrun a Geo if it had to though, and the gas guage moved quicker than the speedo.
And it was the first and last time I buy bolt on mileage/perf parts for a gaser. Hypertech, K&N snorkel, freee flow exhaust netted me almost exactly nothing in mileage or perf gains! Still hated to sell the truck, it was sharp looking!

Yep, I had a 2001 2500 with the 5.9 V8 - nice truck, great suspension etc, but plain gutless and 11mpg was great..... hahahaha

He has to be in the 15-18% interest range.
