OK... got a couple ??? for the third genners out there
Alright all you third genners, that used to be second gen owners. Do ya have any regrets about going to a third gen from a second gen?? all those with the leather seats, How are they holding up?? any complaints about the third gens BESIDES MILAGE! Im just considering selling the '02 and ordering an '05 so any suggestions are appreciated! thanks

The only thing I miss is the noise my 98 made. Mine makes more power stock than my 98 w/ Edge EZ and the fuel mileage is a little better. Mine is just a 03 SO too.. You'll like the quietness for a while but when you come up next to an older one making all that noise you'll miss it. Mine has gotten louder with more miles though. I am very happy with mine..

There is nothing about the 02 2500 I miss, the 04.5 is Much better except the milage. But I will put up with that. And I dont miss the noise,as most of my miles are from Minnesota to Montana.

I also don't miss anything from my 01 which was an HO 6 spd. After 5 previous noisy Cummins, the quiet is nice. So are the 4 doors even though I seldom have more than myself and a passenger. I guess I got lucky. My mileage is as good as, if not a bit better than my 01. Over 8k trouble free miles so far. I opted not to go with the leather when I ordered my 04.5 because they get too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.

I really like mine, though I must admit there is something satisfying in the sound of the 2nd gen 5 speed company truck I occasionally get to drive.
Leather seats have been great, and heated is a nice option. My only complaint is the vinyl center section and rear seat that comes with that package. Center arm rest in particular gets sticky if you are sweaty when you get in the truck. If I could find a taupe cloth rear seat and front center, I would swap those out.
Also, the 6 on my truck shifts easily, but doesn't snick through gears like the 5 speed. On the other hand, the 6 speed has about 70,000 fewer miles, so maybe it will loosen up with time.

My only regret is I waited so long to jump from the 98.5 to the 03. Actually, I don't even regret that because I got a better deal at the end of the year!
My mileage is slightly better, power is WAY better and the seats are so much more comfy in the new one than the old I could road trip for days vs hours.
I do really believe I will hand this truck down to my son... and I don't have kids yet!! Of courrse, that's if I can bear to part with it.

Have had one first, several second, and now this is my first third gen. I do miss the elegant simplicity of the first and early second gen twelve valve motor. It is hard to beat a "nothing to go wrong" + "bulletproof reliability" combination. Other than than that the steering, brakes, noise (I know there are a variety of opinions on the noise), fit, finish and quality of interior are noticably better with the third gen trucks.
