Oil filter wrench

Can someone tell me what type of oil fliter wrench you use to get the filter off an 06. I just did my second oil change with the metal loop type wrench and I had to take out the front wheel well liner for the second time to get enough leverage to get the thing off. This is getting old. I don't care for the placement of the filter.

I have an 05, so I'm not certain it will fit the 06 (although the text says it will), but I'd get this: http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LC54780

Don't make the same mistake someone I know did () and buy a similar one from NAPA for $9.

Forget those "cup" style wrenches. This is the way to fly. Available at most parts stores, sears, tool trucks, etc...

I have both, prefer the metal cup.

I use the strap wrench style. One wrench that works on anything I have and doesn't take up much room.

I second the cup style. I changed my oil last week and used one for the first time. It worked very well.

I'm with JBODY. I have had filter's that leaked in the past, requiring a little more tightening. Then it's really hard to get them off. The strap wrench's seem to slip. Then I started using the 3 finger wrench. No more problem's.

I just use a long extension and lay on the ground under the truck. I don't even have to jack it up.

If you have problems with the cup style try putting a shop rag over the filter.

Oil Filter Wrench

Another vote for the cup style. I bought the one from NAPA, but get a metal one wherever you get it. I can just lay under the front bumper, use an extension and no problems, no mess. Make sure you fill the new filter with oil and lube the O-ring with clean oil, don't over tighten it.

Someone on DTR mentioned loosening the filter a bit, then slipping a Ziploc bag over the filter, then twisting it off by hand so it slips into the bag. Zip it up and discard.

I used that method and my hand stayed oil-free.

I use the vise grip oil filter pliers, they are adjustable and work fine.
