OEM Stereo Marginal
Just finished a quick road trip and I've concluded that my 06 has one of the worst sounding stereos I have ever heard. It is even worse when using Sirius (very muffled). It sounds better with CDs but I was playing songs that I have played in my other vehicles and there are sounds that are nearly absent. I played with the settings but was unable to improve the sound quality much. Any suggestions? I want to ditch the whole setup but I like the way the stock stereo looks. Mine is the SLT with the one disk CD, aux input, and Sirius.

Ahhh, finally someone who agrees with me that sirius sounds like garbage. They stream the music at a poor bitrate of about 60kbps, where a cd is around 320kbps...You can try changing the speakers first, but you will most likely end up changing the head unit too.

If you have the base radio, you can fiddle with the tone settings, turning down the base and treble, or upping the mid tone and you may find it start sounding pretty good. There was a few posts about 6 months ago on the subject.
Replacement speakers will help, but the better Polk ones will need to be driven by more amps, and once you start adding amps, and sub woofers, well... may as well as get the whole system replaced $$$$$.
