Noobie questions
I'm driving from cincinnati Oh to Oklahoma City next week for a job interview. (About a 900 miles) I've been told not to drive with the cruise control on at one speed for a long period of time until break-in is complete. I have 5k on my truck and most of it is highway miles and never pulling a load.
Do I have to change speeds often or can I set the cruise at one speed and go??
My next question is, at 80mph I'm running at 2500rpm. Is that too high to be running for a long period of time, will that do any damage to the engine in the long/short run?? Is 2500rpm too close to the redline?? Sorry if these are dumb questions but this is my first diesel and I want to treat her right.
Thanks for the help.

Re:Noobie questions
All of the trucks I have owned have worked or been driven from the minute they left the lot. Never babied, never followed a "break in" procedure, oil changed every 10k winter and summer, always plugged in when cold and all these years and trucks later NEVER lost an engine. Ever. Drive it the same new as if it has 200k on it. And I usually get rid of them around the 275000 to 300000k mark. My 2500 drove off the lot and hit the highway next day for a 2600k trip nonstop. On cruise.
This is just the way I drive them. Others will change the oil every 500k and follow the break in to the tee. Do what you feel is right. YMMW BTW 2500 rpm will kill your fuel mileage (something I strive for)

Paul
'03 quad HO/6spd SLT

Re:Noobie questions
With 5k on there already, I would say it is not an issue. 2500 rpum's will not hurt it at all but it will drink some fuel on the way. You have a real diesel there and they don't mind working for a living.
