New to me truck (hopefully)

I just put a deposit down on a truck. It is about 4 hours away, so I haven't seen it in person (that is where the hopeful part comes in). It is at a Dodge dealer and is a 1 owner local trade in.

2003 Ram 2500 standard output Cummins, 5 speed, 4x4, QC LB SLT, 231k miles for $9700 + fees and tax. It looks pretty clean and rust free, except the tailgate was removed via a gooseneck trailer and a tear on the drivers seat. It has an aftermarket intake, so I'll definately check the turbo out.

I used to have a 2003 HO 6 speed QC LB 4x4, so I will be glad to be back in the 3rd gen arena. I like my 12v ok, but need the quad cab. I'll fix a couple things on the 94 and hopefully get it sold.

I plan on going down Friday or Saturday to check it and hopefully bring it home.

Nice looking truck.....except for that professionally removed tailgate!!! Be sure to check it for any stored codes and give it a thorough once over and check the for the most frequent issues on these trucks.

Looks good...and sounds like a fair deal. Jealous of the manual!

Good luck. Hope it works out!

Thanks. I'm planning on going down tomorrow afternoon.

On a related issue, I have a set of Back Country stainless nerf bars from my old 03. I need some of the stud plates to mount them (rectangular pieces of metal tapped for the bolt, they go up into holes on the body). Does anyone know where I can get those?

I would first Check your local shops that sell accessories like that to see if they might have some that were removed from another truck. Long shot but possible. If not then I'd call the manufacture I bet they would sell you some.

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if they were a somewhat common hardware item that I just hadn't seen in stores

I picked the truck up last night and brought it home.

The body has a few more dings and scratches than I originally thought, but no rust made it worthwhile.

The only issues I need to address (aside from the cosmetic on the outside) are 1 battery needs replaced, the steering is a little loose, and the exhaust needs repair at the end (broke off right before the muffler).

I'm still happy overall with the price and the truck. I have put over 400 miles on it so far and it runs great.

Thanks again,
Nick

Very nice looking truck. It is a best practice to have both batteries replaced at the same time. A weak battery can compromise or damage the other battery in a short time, new or not.
