probably for the shift lever popping out of park or as they say "driver error for not putting it all the way in park" they install a buzzer that sounds when the lever is not fully in park

One day I stopped at the mailbox near my office, put it in park (so I thought) and jumped out to check the mail....got my mail and started back to my truck which happened to be heading down the parking lot talk about heart attack...I ran after the truck jumped in slammed the brake on just in the nick of time. Very Very bad day to say the least but it could have been worst.
I "thought" I put in into park but apparently it didn't catch?? Needless to say I use the parking brake now regardless.

everytime mine has not locked fully into park, luckily it has only rolled a couple inches and it catches and locks itself. although a couple times i have gotten in the truck and not been able to start it untill i jiggled the lever. I use parking brake every single time now

I currently am having this problem with a full ATS tranny. They rebuilt a new one and shipped it last week. I should have it by Tuesday so we will see how that works out... Just thought I would throw that out there too. I do not know if it is in the tranny housing or the way the linkage is set-up.

Although no vehicle defect has been identified, Chrysler has found that some drivers are not fully placing the shift lever in the “park” position. If the driver leaves a running vehicle without placing the shifter fully in “park,” the vehicle may roll away or, after a delay, move rearward.
Thanks for the help Bubba! (It looks like Dodge is blaming a DEFECT on us- the truck owners. Mine hasn't done this yet, because I read about other people's experiences on our site. I double check mine every time, and I bet if I hadn't known about the DEFECT the same thing probably would have happened to me! Dodge should suck it up, and admit it's their problem, not the carelessness of the driver. )

I was hitching my boat at the ramp and looked up to see my reverse lights on. I don't even want to think what would have happened if my wife haden't applied the parking brake! I'd already been to the dealer once for this problem and they made it a little better but I still have to double check every time. A buzzer isn't going to stop me having to do that, I wish they'd fix it right.
