Need Info for Matching Grille...Please Help!
My 06 has the factory chrome grille on it. I want to get it painted to match my truck. The paint shop I took it to kinda sounded hesitant to do the job due to it being chrome. Can this be done and has anyone done this before? I want the paint to last a while. The painter is a great painter and will sand prime paint and clear coat it. He said he will do it, but cant guarantee it lasting.

I would assume that under the chrome finish that there's a plastic composite finish. I don't see why after the chrome finish is taken off that a good primer with quality resins won't stick to the surface.
Getting the primer to stick is the key (there are primers made for hard to stick surfaces). As long as the primer sticks you should be good to go.

It can be done very easily by a good paint shop. It's all about the right primer and getting it on properly. My factory grille was painted to match and my new T-Rex billet grille has been painted to match as well.

i searched the local craigslist for a few months and picked one up for $50 from a guy who upgraded to chrome.
I did quite a bit of searching on the chrome to black when I did mine. this route and a couple cans of krylon fusion and I was set. Not a perfect match, but looks good enough to me.
