My friend is an idiot.........

Ok here is the deal........my friend thinks that the new powerstroke is better than the 5.9 cummins. He has never owned a "real" truck before so he does not even know what he is talking about. Does anyone have any numbers or a link to a site that compares the two?

Better is subjective. Better interior, probably. Better motor, probably not. There is no one end all be all truck out there, or we'd all be driving it. There are trade offs for everything.

I can't think of a specific site at the moment, try Googling it! But, let's look at some obvious points:

- 7 journal crank versus 5 journal for PowerStroke.
- Beefier connecting rods.
- Cummins engine is a medium-duty class diesel engine versus light-duty powerstroke.
- Cummins was built and originally used for commercial use in the 80's, introduced in the Dodge Ram pickup in 89.

Also, if you review the engine specs on both engines, you will see the obvious differences between the two engines. Besides, the Cummins engine weights in at around 1,084 lbs, whereas the Duramax and Powerstroke I believe sit around 750lbs.

I know guys that have older powersrokes and they dont wanna start when its like 40 outside. if he has a 6 liter he has no prise in my opinion. I would take a worn out 1st gen over a new p-choke anyday. they tested a new 6.4 and put the bully dog pmt on it. it dynoed like 396 with twin turbos? my truck dynoed 460 with one downloader & turbo. the cummins is superior to the power stroke

I would not even bother with trying to explain it to him. Remember that the brand you are driving doesn't really matter, everybody still wants to believe they bought the best they could. Only HE has to like the truck because he is making the payments

Trying to convince him otherwise is most likely a waste of time and you are more likely to alienate him as a friend. Spend your time being positive, show him how your truck performs compared to his, he will see the light on his own

It is still an oil burner, so for our purposes here, better than a gasser

Well on an F-650 and F-750 the 5.9 Cummins is an upgrade whereas the Powerstroke is the base engine.

Actually, I don't believe the powerstroke is even offerd on the F-650 and F750, are they? I think the Cummins is the standard engine.
