MPG average at 23,500 miles

Decided to see what my average mpg has been over the 2 years of ownership. For the entire 23,500 miles, i am getting 14.802 mpg. If i subtract the 3000 or so miles that i spent travelling with a slide in camper and boat in tow, the number goes up to 15.498.

I had been hoping for better numbers overall.

how's everyone else doing?

I have about the same miles on mine and and also live in Wyoming. My empty average is now just above 19 (was just above 17 until I added the modified timing sensor). Towing 10k+ lbs box trailer at speed (75 ish) I get mid 9s. What part of Wyoming?

I monitor and record every mile and every gallon and my average is almost identical to yours so you are doing fine. My overall average after about 25,000 miles (almost no towing) is 15.4 hand calculated. Most people either lie or say what they've gotten for the past 50 miles on the highway going downwind with their Edge eZ set on level 4.

did get higher a couple times

once driving back from Billings MT in a snow storm, going 35 to 40 mph in 4 wheel drive, the overhead said 19.5.

a month ago, i took the dogs out for a spin, and drove about 75 miles going between 50 and 55 mph. overhead said 21.5.

I got 14.5-15.5 mpg for about the first 10000km (6300miles). Then for the next 40000km about 17mpg. The last 15000km before I traded I was getting about 18mpg. These are non-towing numbers.

I keep a spreadsheet of all monies spent on the truck and miles driven. I bought the truck with 65000 miles and with 72000 miles I am getting 17.2 with a high of 18.9 and a low of 15.2 (tank after going straight pipe).

Hnd MPG Cmp MPG
17.1 16.2 Average since new
16.7 16.6 Average new through 10K
17.5 16.3 Average 10K - 20K
17.8 16.9 Average 20K - 30K
16.9 15.7 Average 30K-40K

The above are every drop of fuel put in my truck. The average went down in the 30K-40K time frame because I had been pulling my 5er to and from the lake getting 10ish MPG. I pull a 16' tandem axle trailer around town occasionally but I only loose around 1 MPG doing it. I also reset my overhead every tank and monitor the varience. Pulling the 5er it is dead on, empty it have varied as much as 2 MPG. The best tank I ever got was between Albequerque NM and Phoenix going traveling interstate at 70 then back highways through Payson at 60. I got 21.5 that time.

Better than that. If my truck only got 14 mpg I wouldn't be driving it.

These days my truck is averaging 20.8 mpg hand calculated for my everyday driving (mixed city/highway) and about 22 mpg on all highway trips out of town. My overall average for the life of the truck (56K+ miles) is 18.4 mpg, but since doing the tone ring mod that number has increased (the past 4-5 tanks have averaged 20.8 overall).

Hoss's 2wd manual should be better than your 4x4 auto. Your numbers should be somewhat less than my '03 as I had more miles and your LB is a little heavier than my SB. I had a diesel mechanic (non DC) tell me to expect the break in to take up to 50000km. Sure enough, there was improvement at that point. About a third of my driving was towing about 8000lbs which I think speeds up the break in.
