On adding 2 stroke oil:

Dad and I had a long drive from Houston back to Shepherd in the EARLY AM today and were discussing this.

For at least 6 tanks now, I have been adding 16oz of Super Tech ashless 2 stroke oil and 4oz of Grey Bottle Diesel Kleen when I fill up.

For at least 3 of the last 4 tanks MTE and odo reading have equaled 700+ miles and that hasn't been the case before.

If someone could convince me otherwise, I'd stop doing it. But I really do see a benefit to it so I ain't gonna stop!

Let me say this yet again... I drive like Grandpaw. No jack rabbit starts and coasting stops whenever possible. NEVER exceed 2000rpm cruise, and usually do 1800rpm at 64 mph on the highway. I have 2WD at stock height with stock wheels and stock size tires.

Fuel economy is not THE reason for owning a diesel truck. But my '03 weighs right around 8,000LB before I get in. And it isn't the most aerodynamic vehicle on the road. And I LIKE squeezing every last MPG out of the fuel!

My dad had to get his truck re flashed and is now seeing in the 15 range on the overhead. Everyone has to take into account the location of the posters as well. In texas your pretty flat but here in good ol NJ theres plenty of hills to kill the mpg. Also alot of guys bs about their mileage. I know a guy with a 2007 dodge 5.9 cummins saying he gets 35 mpg avg.... Yea ok...

Ok so what besides the third injection sequence is different about the 06 that contributes to bad fuel mileage?

So what mpg increase do you attribute the 2 stroke oil & diesel kleen to?

Well, Im back. I did manage to get it up to 14.8 not including the tire calculation(75 mph plus). This trip though the ford filled up every time I filled. I went 440 on 30 gals , ford 440 on 23. We did have a brand new 08 ford 6.4 350 that got 11 the whole trip so I guess Im not that bad . I will be trying the Dealer for the flash and then the tc 3 2 stroke oil before i give up!

I have owned 3 CTD and all get reasonable milage if you learn to keep your foot from going too deep. . .no offense but your note would make me think you enjoy the power and performancxe and like to show it off from time to time. I only get 20 ish when I drive gentle all the time. Sorry . . . . .

I sure do look forward to adding a SMARTY once the warranty get closer to being done. . .it will be alot harder to drive gentle then. . .

Get a diablosport predator.

stock 14-16mpg on a good day.

diablosport on extreme 18-21.5mpg depending on how fast i drive the highway.

normal hwy spd is 70-75, i get 18-19...if i drop it down to 65-70 range, then it goes up to 19-21.5. This is consistent mileage..only other mods are amsoil in all the holes and full straight pipe.

In July i drove from Gatlinburg to South Florida. @77mph I drove 719 miles on 1 tank. 06, 4x4,longbed, smarty #3 procomp 35" S&B intake, A/C on about half, me and my wife and 2 kids. In South Carolina I hit 25min of stop and go traffic so that maybe took 25 miles off? Now that said I just got 553 miles on a tank because I love to smoke fords and chevys @ stop lights.

I cant see a ford getting 20mpg?? maybe a 7.3 2x4 short bed but the new 6.4 get around 10-12 mpg....and the 6.0 do 14-16 mpg

When I first got mine, I was at 10-11 in town, 12-14 on the hiway - I just bought a new camper this year, and since then my mileage has improved a ton!! I see around 15 in town and 17 on the hiway - BTW - I took a trip this last weekend to my parents ( 300 miles ) and set the cruise at 70 and let her go and I broke 20mpg!!!

work that engine - it likes it!

I just did a road trip from New Mexico to Georgia and back. The best mileage I managed to squeeze out was 20.1 - 20.7 mpg on the computer (20.0 hand calc). 70 was my truck's 'Happy Speed' where I was able to get the mpg to steady out at a speed I could live with. I've been averaging between 18.0 & 18.6 mpg during my daily driving to and from work (13 miles one way). I try to keep my speed below 70 to get the best mileage I can... which is hard when the legal speed limit is already 65-75. =)
