in my truck listed below....

i hand calc every tank and fill up the same way at the same ful place 90% of the time.

Unloaded before my ems hub kit i ALWAYS got at least 16...usually 16.5-17.5...this is mixed highway, city and interstate, even with up to an hour of idling on each tank

I have 14k on my truck and im getting 17-18 now pretty much every tank....keep in mind this is a 6 speed DRW QC 4x4 with about 1000 lbs of tools and junk on it all the time

i installed a rokktech right after i bought the truck....i have no cat and a 51" donaldson

I don't understand why you guys complain so much about fuel mileage on these truck! You did buy an almost 4 ton vehicle. If you want fuel mileage by one of these.

I'm with you Buck I didn't buy it for mpgs all though its nice to get the best you can thats a bonus. If I wanted a mpg vehical I'd go with a civic. You buy these for a purpose right, daily driver and hauling small or large thats what there made for not 20 plus mpgs. I hear the same from Ford guys that are maxing 16 mpg and Gm guy getting the same. You didn't buy a fuel saving vehical thats why theres no mpg rating on the sticker. We could talk this to death and it has been.
As for as adding 2 stroke I'm not sure of that no real testing just hear say. I do use an additive Stanadine and it does seem to help it run a little smoother and less smoke and it a LITTLE quiter but I didn't buy a civic so I not concerned.
Oh and yes I'm getting 17-18.5 50/50 driving with the Quad box and thats up aprox 2 mpg from stock and that still getting better (a little) 20000 miles now.
Sorry to go on but I cant help my self, Good Day

This discussion will go on forever because there is no logical answer..my 06 I bought new never got better then 14mpg no matter what I tried. I lightfooted the thing to the point where it was almost embarassing.......put 50 thousand miles on it and it never got better......now I have an 03 and drive it without the lightfoot and I get 20mpg hand calculated in town and 23mpg on the open highway. I can go a week driving around town and putting a quarter tank in it to fill it up..........its been saving me 30 bucks a week over the 06...............with the exact same routine.......I do think the 03s from what I have read get way better mileage..and it pulls my 10k trailer better then the 06..........not to mention the 2wd has something to do with it. Seats are more comfortable too...............the 06 sucked ........

i have an 06 ctd 4x4 with 35s, 2" leveling, workhorse intake, mbrp exhaust sans kitty with no programmer and i average out to 17-18 mpg on the tank. i can get up to 22 on the highway with the AC off at night. that said, if i get on it hard on a regular basis that number can easily be half that. "spirited driving" and fuel economy are inversely proportional. Just FYI

You might be hand calculating but your tire size is throwing off what you think is a mile by about 4%. Unless you have had your speedo recalibrated, even then I would want it checked. If you really are looking for mileage put a stock tire on properly inflated, silencer ring in, good new air filter, good new fuel filter, syn the motor and rears, drive conservatively and see where you are. I think a smarty might help based on other owners but don't know why. It might hurt though because you will be on it more because of the smile factor.

From Dieselman:
5280 / (((((SW*(AR/100)*2)/25.4)+R)*3.14)/12)

Where

SW = Section width in millimeters
AR = Aspect Ratio as a whole number
R = Rim Size in inches

A 265-70R17 would be.....

5280 / (((((265*(70/100)*2)/25.4)+17)*3.14)/12) = 638 Revs per Mile

The stock 265s are 638 and your 285/70/17s are about 617. If you don't have e's and can't inflate you are not going to get the most mileage you can. Some really like 2 stroke so that might be worth a try. If you don't do anything else I would try and get it to filter a little better, put the silencer ring back in, and air up.

only reason I would put the ring back in is it would make the airflow into the turbo smoother. Might help, might not but it sure won't hurt.

This thread is going to go on forever, so I wanted to put my 2 cents in, since I am currently making a road trip from New Hampshire. I left NH on Tuesday and went to DC. On that tank I got 491 miles. From DC to Nashville I got 510 miles. I left NAshville today and now am currently in Dallas and got 536.

I have an 06' quad cab HO with about 1200 lbs in it, and with 2 people in it and my AC running 24/7. I have been mainly going 70-75 MPH. Oh ya, its a totaly stock dodge. My gauge says I get around 18.6-20.2 throughout the tank. Once I hit half tank it usually goes up to around 20.

Anyways Im sure this doesnt help anyone but since Im driving from NH to CA, thought I would share my thoughts on this thread.

Our trucks have a sweet spot for mileage between 1600 and 2000.. try to keep it in that range while driving highway. Also.. use the Gray Power service. Ive noticed that even with my lift and 35s the PS is good for another mpg or 2 at highway..

accurate hand calcs with 285/70/17's

Here's the formula for hand calcs that compensates for my oversize 285/70/17 tires that I use every time I fill up my truck.

285/70/17 diameter = 32.7
265/70/17 diameter = 31.6

32.7 / 31.6 = 1.0348101265822784810126582278481

1.0348101 x your odometer mileage = your actual miles driven with 285's

Also you can multiply that by the speed on your odometer for accurate speed.
