Might be buying a 3rd gen opinions on this one?
I've been driving my 93' 12 valve for almost a year now as a work truck and I love it. Buy I'm not going to be taking the family on any road trips with it It's a work truck. Period.
My friend has his 2004 4x4 ST full size bed, quad cab that he's been talking about selling for a month now. I'm pretty hooked on the idea of buying it. He want's $19,500 for it. He stuck it on ebay and it got a bid for that but he canceled the listing early to sell it locally instead.
He's done a lot of work to it. I've test driven it and it is a rocket ship. He hasn't towed much at all with it except on vacation, and he drives it fairly conservatively. I haven't talked extensively about what gauges he runs but he ran them all for a long time before taking them off. So he knows when the truck is doing and EGT and all that. He took the gauge pod down because highschool kids were always trying to race him at stop lights.
I trust him because we're friends and it seems like a special case. I don't think I'd be to excited buying a truck like this from someone I didn't know.
What do yall think?

sounds like good truck for the money, that's a lot of money he put in to extras, as long as you really trust your friend, that its not going to need a rebuild shortly after you buy it. I feel its hard to drive conservatively with those mods. Im just saying, to check it out and make sure its not going to turn into a big turd and ruin a friendship. Seen it happen.

I test drove the other day. Around town and to drive to work, he has it on the lowest power setting and at 65mph I saw it was getting 24mpg. Unless the computer or the other parts somehow can trick the onboard mpg display up at the top console?
He's said on long road trips he would change to setting 7 that he found he liked the best. And that's when he was getting 28mpg.

Seems like a nice truck but there is NO way a common rail 4x4 truck with oversize tires is getting anything over 21 mpg unloaded and driven extremely conservatively on the highway, and even that would be stretch...the overhead display for avg. fuel mileage is often called a "lie-o-meter" for a very good reason.

With Banks setup on my 04 4X4 Quad cab the best fuel mileage I have ever archived was 22MPG unloaded in economy mode and I think I had a wind behind me.
