Loud Cracking/crunching noise coming from under glove box area
Hello
I have recently started hearing a weird cracking/crunching noise coming from under the glove box area. It sounds exactly like an empty plastic pop bottle being squeezed and then letting go-makes a loud popping noise-but it is not continuous. It takes a little bit of driving for it to occur then reoccurs every 5 min or so.
I've read up on the blend door issue-but i have none of the symptoms. I have fully working vents in all positions, both recirc and outside air works fine...but the noise is loud and I am wondering what it is.
To diagnose whats been happening-i've tried all types of heater settings, fan speeds and temperature controls-it doesn't matter what/where they are, it still happens. The only real way I can make it make the sound is if I drive up a long steep hill-and accelerate hard....then it will happen, but really only once.
I was thinking it could be linked to a vacuum actuator-but i don't even know if this truck has them (no vacuum) like my older gas jobs used to have.
Any ideas?
Matt.

There are a couple of doors inside that end. One of them may have broken. They are driven by an electrical actuator that over-torques them closed and breaks them. It's a very common problem, especially in 2006's. Like pullin hard said, pull the blower motor out and take a look inside there. You will probably find a broken recirc door. There are MANY threads about that around here.

Hey there, I just pulled the blower motor out and took a good look at the recirc door and could see no problems with it. The door was not visually cracked and moved easily with no noise.
I played with it for a bit- changing the blower settings and vent positions and could still not get it to make a noise while my head was under there. (figures)
any ideas?
I would like to see about getting the truck fixed sooner than later.
