I started to notice a steering problem on my truck at about 2 years old. I was having intermittent hard wheel whether moving or not. A year or so later I noticed intermittent stiff brake pedal. Then one day I noticed them both at the same time. I read my manual and found that they both use the power steering pump. From that point as soon as I noticed a stiff wheel I would brake immediately and I found that everytime I had a stiff brake pedal and vice a versa. You don't have to be using them both at the same time. I bought the guages and adapters to hook up to the power steering system but by the time I had enough time to check it out it had stopped. I have not had hard wheel/stiff brake pedal in over a year.

Thanks, Spots. I downloaded and installed the spell checker. It works great!

I had an 01 that did the same thing, especially in the winter. I took it in they put a pump on it, they put a gearbox on it, they pressure tested it, they said everything was normal. Nothing helped. So guess what, they said live with it and I did................Your brakes and steering work together off the power steering pump. Diesels don't have vacuum like cars do so the pump is working double duty, twice as hard.
