After reading this thread I looked in our local paper at the classified ads. Here's a nice one...it's in MT though. Point is there are deals out there. Watch your area using Ebay motors and Autotrader along with the Nickel ads and classifieds. You'll run into something. Plus, with the debt market and mortgage market trouble I'm sure you could start seeing lots of deals come through from people wanting to offload their stuff to pay for those interest only loans they got talked into. I would be patient.

What I saw out there
First time cummings owner, looked for about a month everywhere I could think of, following is what I found:
2005 4x4, 3/4 ton quad, auto, sb, 50k they wanted $26.8, very nice shape
2004 pretty much same as above only long box, $25, not quite as nice shape
2003 same as the 05 except 42k, boards, auto start and tonneau cover for $22.9 - I bought this one, it was like new
All three were dealers in ND and MN, two gassers that I was looking at as well as the one I bought were pretty much priced at what NADA trade in value stated. I looked at 2wd's on autotrader, as I was driving a 2wd 94 chev 6.5td, but they "seemed" priced to high compared to 4x4, at least to me and I was willing to go with a 2wd.
Good luck with selling your truck.

Not to bad. truck looks clean. I saw a post about Texas and the impression was there cheaper. Not really the case. they are highly sought after and to find one with decent miles seems to be even tougher. Last month I paid $30,500 OTD for my 06 CC SWB 4X4 w/leather and 29k miles. Included a 3 yr 48 k ext warranty. It is a very clean truck except for the smoked in smell. $60 at the full service car wash fixed that though.

Looks good.
I looked all over but finding any quad cab diesel 4x4 around here used is hard.
Pay'd $27K + Warr+TTL
Real clean truck with 43,xxx miles. I found some priv party but I needed to trade my 06 F150 4x4 in so I know I paid a little more than I could have. Oh well, I love my truck.

So then I guess he just didn't like the nice wheels and front bumper from the Laramie? This isn't making any sense. Maybe the truck was wrecked and he couldn't afford the Laramie stuff or maybe he just put leather seats and the wood trim in an SLT. I would take the VIN to your local dealer and have them give you the printout of what that truck is exactly.
