Looking for tire advice for new 2500 ?

Buying a new 2500 in the next couple of days and would like some advice on tires ? I don't want the 265 pizza cutters. I would like either 285 or even 315s. Will 315s fit without rubbing or a lift kit ? I am also going to put bushwacker falres, im not sure if it makes a difference. What is the best tire as well as best looking tire for this almost stock setup with the flares ? The tires need to take me everywhere, something good all around, highway, snow, ice not to much offroad. Can anyone make a good recommendation. Sorry for the long winded post.

You can fit 315's if you do a search for 315 you can find all the info you need.

I would put a leveling kit on and go with 35s. They'll make your truck look real good. I have them on mine and they don't even look like they're 35s. Anything less is too small in my opinion. I'm a big bfgoodrich mud tire fan. I got over 50,000 miles on my last set. My buddy just got 52,000 out of his last set before he bought new ones. The all terrain tires are rock collectors. They'll still be pounding your truck with rocks 10 miles down the road. I hate em.

Tires !

What other tire brands are decent. I also heard the same thing from a tire shop about the BFGs. How about Goodyears ? Wrangler ATS maybe. I'm open to a good suggestion for the 315s.

I didn't want the pizza's either and bought new at 200 miles.
I went with the 285/70R17 Toyo, look like these:


They are C rated to 2755 lbs @ 50 psi which I don't like.
Traction is excellent, sound is very low and overall a really nice tire. At 12,500 miles they are wearing just fine. Today they saw plenty of wet Sierra snow.

When these wear out I plan to make a rim change to these

And then go with a Nitto 305/60R20 E rated to 3195 lbs.

One thing nice about staying with a 33" tire is that the factory scan tool can reprogram the tires RPM (revolutions per mile) so your speedo/odo and overhead are all correct.

IMO go with 33's if you get the 3.73 gears and 315's if you get the 4.10's

I have to agree with Glowball, as good as the BFG AT's are, the big downside is that rock grabbing, rock chunking tread design. I switched to Bridgestone Desert Duelers years ago. They are much less prone to pick up every piece of rock or gravel on the road. I got an astounding 57,000 miles out of my first set and have run them on two other trucks since, including the 2001 F150 4x4 SuperCrew I currently own. The problem is Bridgestone does not offer any fitments other than 265's in 17 inch.

Matt400 may have offered the solution to my quest with the Toyo 285 tire. One question Matt, are the Toyo's less prone to picking up rocks and gravel than the BFG AT's? Toyo's tread design reminds me of the Desert Duelers.

I just ordered the BFG 31570R17's yesterday for $123.00 a piece. If they rub, then I'll get the leveling kit...saw it on internet for $129.00. And yes, the dealer can reprogram your ECM (30 min for 32.50) for the 601 Revolutions per mile @45mph, called for by the tire size. Oh, BTW the 315's fit on your factory wheels...I don't think the one's, especially a 60 series tire, will fit on stock rims, so you're gonna have to spend money on new rims too.

Rock throwing? My 2004 came with the BFG 26570R17 rock throwers. That's what mudflaps, nerf bars, and Fender Flares are made to help prevent..

Rossn2....Your '04 probably came wit the Trail TA's which aren't nearly as bad in the rock chunkin department as the All Terrain TA's. I don't want to get too much stuff hanging off my truck (i.e. nerf bars, mud flaps and flares), preferring a tad more conservative approach with the possible addition of flares. But then again, to each his own.

I'm looking forward to your impressions of the taller tires with the 3.73 gears. I think the combo will work great on your truck, considering you have the 6 speed manual. Keep us "posted"!

Got that storage shed finished? Rain is in the forecast for your area today.

No on storage shed...waiting for construction crew to build the 20x22 pad going underneath it...Hope to have it installed sometime next week. Luckily, I have a two car garage to park if necessary...Don't know if truck will fit with the 315's or not. I know the F250 4x4 King Ranch comes with the All terrains from the factory and they don't have a large fenderflare on them, but think ford fenders are a little wider...Hope stones don't get too out of shape. I hunt on a ranch in Freer that is 13 miles off hwy 44 and it's all caliche...so time will tell. Usually it has rained and the road is like driving a frozen lake. Gotta keep the foot into it and don't back out or stop, or you'll slide off the top center of the road...
Anyways...I'll have a set of the Rugged Trail TA's 265's for sale next week...only 8,000 miles on them...Probably let go for $75 a piece if anyone here in central texas is interested...

I think they might be about the same on pick up except that the rocks will spin out at slower speeds. The best traction tire, low noise that wont pick up rocks are the Goodyear AT/S. They get good mileage also but sizes are limited.

I like the looks of those toyo's, but the C rating makes me a little nervouse. have you done much towing with them?

If you replace the load range E tires on your 2500 with something less you will be giving up a lot of load capacity and the GVWR rating on your sticker will no longer be accurate. If you don't carry much weight this may not be an issue for you, but something to keep in mind.

I agree, I don't care for the C rated either. I tow a 6K travel trailer and a 4K boat. They have 12500 miles on them with no trouble and I keep the max air in them.
I would feel better with E's mainly for the added weight of the CTD

the BFG 31570R17's are "D" rated with max load at 3195lbs at 50psi...
So going from the factory BFG Rugged Trail LT 26570R17 shouldn't see any difference...I would hope, other than moving these big meats down the road...

I've had the Dueler AT and Wrangler AT tires on my F150 4x4's, prior to becoming a Cummins owner, No complaints on either of them other than my fuel mileage suffered between 2-3mpg, even with the same tire size as factory tires, because they were more aggressive...

Here in Texas you need a tire with a square sidewall to keep off those pesky mesquite thorns... The Dueler/Wrangler/ALL-Terrain all come with the square side wall.

It's personal choice and what your wallet can afford....
