Long trip, mpg and behavior
I've just completed the first part of my relocation, bringing the 40ft Sooner cargo trailer, loaded from Washington, to Indiana, a distance of 2465 miles. Total weight as driven, 22,200 pounds, fluctuating as fuel was used.
Trip average speed: 61 mph
Trip average MPG: 10.2023 mpg.
I was happy with the trip, in the most part, but being stuck in immobile traffic, on I80, where the toll part starts, because of construction and morons was 2 hours I would rather have spent anywhere else.
The power of this truck is evident as only two hills required changing out of 6th gear. Climbing up hills, with that load, and not having to change down was amazing to say the least. Towing such a load makes the truck sound cool too - passing beneath the freeway, one time, on an incline toward a fuel stop, the truck sounded just like a semi..... The Airraid system, along with the lack of restriction in the exhaust made the beast sing.
The next step, towing a 6800 pound bumper tow trailer back to WA, to cover the cost ( for a friend, for fuel) so we can afford to bring the 8500 pound fifth wheel back here...
Advice for folk... If you need to relocate, for any reason, have a yard sale first..

Sounds good on your towing and millage. Thse motors love the highway, love towing and love pulling. I pulled 7K pounds up to Erie to race over Memorial weekend only 600 miles but I was averaging 14.5 mpg with a 16 foot enclosed trailer (20 foot) Biggest thing is wind resistance. (and that's at 75mph) I've tried slowing down 5mph, helps a bunch, but then again, on a trip that long I don't want to take an extra day to save 10 bucks.
Keep up working that beast.
